  1. I suspect a push poll on Americans Not Bothered by NSA Spying · · Score: 1

A push poll is one where they decide in advance what they want to find, and construct loaded questions that people will have to answer their way. I suspect that this was a push poll. WKRC TV in Cincainnati did a similar poll on last night's news asking whether NSA domestic spying was an invasion of privacy, or homeland security. 70% said invasion of privacy.

  2. Re:Fight your own battles. on Tech Workers of the World Unite? · · Score: 1

Techies don't organize because they think they are part of the wealthy elite that will be leaving them at the curb on trash day. To the parent poster, and others who believe that a single working stiff has any power over the employer class: You will learn. Your boss thinks a trained monkey could do your job, and it is a shame he has to pay you at all. You are a cheap disposable commodity. The golden calf you bow before called "the free market" will not save you, but organizing with your fellow workers could. Too bad you are an unsociable loner. It takes social skills to be part of a union, a team or any other group. The nerds, geeks, dorks and dweebs who make up much of the I.T. industry have none.

Revelation 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Smart cards have no security. Damn near anyone with a computer and a reader can reprogram them. This idea will make identity theft and creating fake IDs a lot easier.

  8. CRIA and RIAA on Canadian Music Stars Fight Against DRM · · Score: 2, Interesting

CRIA stands for Canadian Recording Industry Association. RIAA stands for Recording Industry Association of America. No "A" in either group's acronym stands for artists. I am glad they are finally forming organizations of their own. Boycott the big labels!

I strongly suspect that HD-DVD and Blu-ray will be another ditto.

I think "Average Joe" will instantly notice if his new DVDs look no better than his old ones, and be very angry! To make matters worse, once the disk is opened it cannot be returned. To avoid this travesty, those of us in-the-know need to inform "Average Joe" before he gets ripped off.

I will not buy any DRM crippled product, movies or music and am not shy about encouraging others to boycott them. Respect my personal property rights after the sale, or there will be no sale.

A lot of people think Asimov's laws are real, and don't get it that he was a sci-fi writer, not a scientist in the field of robotics. He was even asked to speak at universities as an expert on robotics when all he had done was write some stories. If they had read the robot novels, they would have noticed that even Asimov's robots did not always obey the laws.
