Well, the XBOX is backwards compatible with NES, SNES, N64, ATARI, etc... It's so expensive to add compatibility for these features and that's why microsoft had sell the XBOX at a loss.
I do research in computer graphics. Finding 3d models is a pain. There are so many formats, and converting between formats is no fun. Sometimes parts of the model get messed up. For example the surfaces normals come out backwards or the material properties disappear. I think if they release a nice file format, and a nice and fast API for loading and saving files i would check it out. And if there were a lot of nice 3d models available in that format, i would be all for it.
Something similar happend to me. I had a unix file called ~. I tried to delete it. Everything got deleted. I have been using windows ever since. I love it!
Samir Gupta, you are my hero! I have you in my slashdot friends list, so I can keep up with your lastest comments. Do you have a blog, or personal website that we can read more?
What would happen if TV makers changed the comercials in TV shows to thier own? If it was legal and it was implemented in enough TVs what would happen to TV programming?
The same thing is going to happen to websites that are supported by AD revenue!
I am horrified by this ruling.
Many websites use advertising to stay free (as in beer). One problem with gator style "pop overs" is that instead of the original website driving traffic to their sponsors, it drives it to gator's sponsors. Thus gator style pop-overs reduce advertising income from the original website owners. It also reduces sales income to the sponsors that support them.
In my opinion this is a big defeat for free information (as in beer). If this does not get overruled than many websites that are supported by web advertising will have to charge money or go out of business.

While we are on the subject of Tron, you should check out ARMAGETRON.
IMHO This is the very best 3d lightcycle game for the following reasons:
*) The closer you get to a "Trail" of another bike the faster your lightcycle accelerates.
*) Bike trials have no thickness so you can get arbitrarily close to a trial without hitting it.
*) Splitscreen multiplayer (or lan)
plus other reasons
*) Computer AI bots are named after buggy computer applications!
*) Linux Friendly/open source
*) Interesting graphics
What if, on a crowded street, you look up and see something appear that should not, given what we know, be there. You either shake your head and dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than we think. Perhaps it really is a doorway to another place. If you choose to go inside you may find many unexpected things. - Shigeru Miyamoto
I think that a spinning laser would rip apart a lot easier than than the cd.
But along those lines. Why don't they put more than one laser on the cd. I know they put bundles of lasers to improve the reading of data at high speeds, but I am refering to having lasers reading seperate tracks in parallel. Then you wouldn't need to spin the cd so fast. Also you could improve seek time. Kinda like RAID...
I have the retail version 3dstudio max 5. My computer dual boots just fine. I never had any problems.
Maybe they changed it for Version 5. Or maybe it is just my setup (I have two SCSI hard drives. One for windows and one for Linux.)
So don't not buy 3d Studio Max just because you hear that it writes to the boot sector on Slashdot. If you are worried, it wont work, email discreet and ask.
If your not playing games, buying it used is a great idea. Linux, if you set it up right, runs great on older computers. The only thing you will need is a new battery. Batteries get old.
My brother works at a marketing research company. They value thier data so much that instead of selling off thier old computers, they physically destroy them.
I never saw a picture of the glass, but I am guessing it has a similar surface to that a ginkgo leaf , which is also self cleaning. Biomimicry is the field of science that is looking at nature for ideas for inventions. Could be anything... genetic algorithms...
The book Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature is an intresting read. I met the author Janine M. Benyus. She is very nice and down to earth.
There was a comment that said on self powered phones, like cordless phones, you could skip the Battery or USB power source.
Somebody post the torrent!
What about people that use pricematching and rebates together to get items for free.

I wonder if google can use diffrent compression techniques for this kind/amount of data...
GOD DAMN! Don't ruin things like that for me!

Visual feed back won't work if your sleeping. Plus i routinely drive sitting on my hands, and just using my knee to adjust my steering.
ronebofh has a message on his blog:
:(
In case anyone wants to join the Google-affiliated Friendster knockoff, Orkut, let me know and i'll invite you.
I emailed him, to be invited, but he rejected me because he didn't know me. It seems like an open invitation. I don't understand. Nobody loves me.

It should say, "The sheriff of Nottingham is stealing from the rich and giving to the poor."

Algabra...a gateway subject?
Heck no!
That's like calling crack a gateway drug.
Remember the homograph attack? http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/~gabr/papers/homograp h_full.pdf
Careful of the gator plugin on the web site linked in the story!
