Transparency in PNGs is optional in the standard. So, as far as PNGs go IE6 IS standards compliance. I agree, it totally sucks and I wish it would support alpha channels, but it is compliant.
Is there an actual *evolution* - a change - or just a change in the proportion, ie, there were a small percentage of long legged toads before, and now there is a large percentage? MANY modern cases of evolution are simply a change in proportion.
You're assuming money is the only reason people work, or the primary motivator. Sure, it's a factor, but once you are earning $36,000/year in most cities you can get by. Over and above that, it's really up to what you want out of life. Who are you to suggest earning more money is more important than playing x-box with bono? If that's what this guy wants out of life, if it's what makes him happy, then more power to him! And if making 6 digits keeps you happy, then great, I'm happy that's what you are getting. Just don't assume everyone has the same life goals as you.
It is free for a year, not free for only a year. I agree, MS was pretty confusing about this, you certainly aren't the only one to get mixed up. In other words, get it in the next year and it's free for ever, get it after a year, and you may have to pay for it.
I'm guessing the article was submitted by a linux fan. Why? It contains heaps of detail about the new and improved stuff, but misses the big picture: what IS blender? Not even a few words eg "Blender, the popular open source 3D animated software, has...".
...and if it doesn't you won't say "well, I was wrong on that one".
The number of bad things microsoft get accused of on/. FAR outweighs the number of the bad things they do. Remember when they bought Virtual PC and everyone said they'd drop the Mac version? Guess what, they didn't. Didn't see any "oh I was wrong comments" to that one, or the thousands of other accusations.
The google sandbox is a well documented algo that google use. It works on the theory that most spam sites have a short life. Unfortunately they throw out the baby with the bathwater....
The bit this ignores is that it's up to the search engines to decide who gets chosen. So for example, the google sandbox penalises most new sites for up to 18 months. If the best answer to your question is on a new site, sorry, but google probably won't find it. Whatever rules they make up determines what happens.
Yahoo does have some work needed, and I certainly prefer google over yahoo. However, there is this misconception that google is perfect. Google is far from perfect. You familiar with the google sandbox? Google's reasoning: most search engine spamming sites have a short life. So, let's penalise virtually all new sites. So, if the best answer to your question is on a 6 month old site, Google isn't the place to find it. It has no shortage of other problems as well. It's just the best of them.
Be careful - there have been several reports of them killing people, not to mention kidnapping.
One of the variants of the nigerian scam has them getting the suspects to illegally enter the country, then hold them ransom or threaten to turn them over to the nigerian authorities. There are other variants. People HAVE been killed.
Maybe we should consider nuking all environmentally sensitive areas.
No, wait...
is tetris. No single piece of software has wasted so much time.

...but Indians can not write your software for 1/4 of the price.

I'm expecting CmdrTaco to post a dupe of one of his "letters to slashdot" soon.

I didn't talk about the app, I talked about the submitter. He could be talking about new breeds of chickens for all I care.
This isn't a troll, it's a serious comment.

Now THAT was funny.
You clearly missed the bit in the abstract that said:
"...if one had access rights..."
All the SEOs I know are **well** aware of the value of an old domain.
A *true* artificial intelligence which learns everything it knows via usenet would be one of the scariest things I can imagine.
...and if it doesn't you won't say "well, I was wrong on that one".

My mod points just expired... if I still had them, I'd mod you up for this. Well said.
Is mini-microsoft really shaking things up? Sure, there's a lot of people talking about it, but that doesn't mean it's actually making a difference.
What new managers are they hiring? None that I can see. In fact, they are loosing one (next year anyway).
You also said
"What I don't get, is why this genre is so often praised and so seldom successfully imitated?"
Well, that's why. It's hard to do.
I have open office, therefore I can crank out an award winning book within a week, tops.
You're kinda missing the point.

I now believe that prayers CAN be answered.
