  1. maybe on Does Your LCD Play Catch-Up To Your Mouse? · · Score: 1

I recently got a Samsung SyncMaster 712n LCD. I immediately noticed the mouse didn't respond properly. This lead me to believe it had something to do w/ my new LCD somehow. However, I also noticed if i tilted my mousepad, the mouse worked better. So now I assume it's the mouse or mousepad, but I've had the same mouse and mousepad even before this new LCD and I hadn't had any of these issues...so I'm not sure what to think.

my favorite episode was one where some lady was supposed to fly out from Burbank, but because she was running late, she called SouthWest to ask if she could fly out of LA, shorter drive for her. They said it was ok as long as she made it to the security checkpoint within 15minutes of the plane's departure time.

So yes, she got there not 15 minutes before the departure, but 20 minutes. She was delayed because she had a bunch of presents and they had to examine them (I'm certain she didn't mention that to the rep. when she called S.W.). So now she missed her flight and is pissed of and is talking to one of the managers.

She goes on to say about how she made it on time, blah blah blah. The manager says that she should ahve arrived at least an hour early to have some buffer time. Then the angry customer says something along the lines "Oh that's besides the point. Me being late is not an issue." And proceeds to bitch as to why they did not let her board the plan.

    Ha!

#2 was some idiot customer crying about her luggage being lost and yelling at the baggage claim person. She tells them her bag is brown. Turns out her bag was in the carrusel all this time....oh yeah, and it wasn't brown. It was green.

It just irritated me that even when a caller was trying to ask his/her question, Leo would go offtrack. And when they get back on track, he'd resume with his stupid antics. You could tell that sometimes even Pat would get annoyed and would shut him up in a graceful and polite way. Now w/out Leo, TSS seems to cover more topics, caller's questions, etc.

If I open up a gas station in the corner, I can't expect everybody that passes by to stop and fuel up. In addition, I shouln't be surprised if another gas station opens up in front of mine! As the topic states, "Maybe if I catch someone trying to break into my car, I can sue him for the damage he would have caused if he succeeded..."...Sue him for all the days I would have missed work, all the job offers I could have gotten (because I got fired for the other one since I didn't have a car to get there on time every day), etc.

...ReplayTV's ability to send video to another TV isn't that much different than TiVo's Home Media Option.

You mean, TiVo's Home Media Option isn't that much different than Replay's feature. From TiVo's Home Media Option Page you see that it consists of:
    1) Digital Music
    2) Remote Scheduling
    3) Digital Photos
    4) Multi-Room Viewing

Sure, (1) isn't part of ReplayTV, but the rest are, and its free, whereas TiVo charges an additional fee for these features. And it's been around, Home Media Option only became avaliable not too long ago.

I would undoubtedly buy another ReplayTV unit regardless of the outcome of the Commercial Avance Feature. Plus, I've read posts from many ReplayTV users who own TiVos _AS WELL_ and praise ReplayTV's for their superior video encoding. And lets not get into TiVo's daunting menu's.

  24. untouched subject... on Why Do Computers Still Crash? · · Score: 1
I've used computers for about 30 years and over that time their hardware reliability has improved (but not that much), but their software reliability has remained largely unchanged.

I read through most of the replies, and skimmed through the rest...none seemed to touched on the subject that the companies that sell the software (haven't really payed attention to hardware) immideately release themselves from any harm their software causes. They state that they are not liable for any data loss, etc. in result of use of their software. It really ticks me off that it is so easy for them to do that. I would like to be able to have the DMV accept a terms and agreement stating since they granted me the drivers lisence I (the driver) can not be held responsible if I crash [waiting for soembdy to show how this analogy is not so good]. I would imagine if software companies could be held liable they would clean up their code a bit more, make it less likely to crash, etc....Afterall they're making money from this. I could understand programs released under GNU GPL to have "as is" notices. It's free! :)

At the other end...people do crazy stuff with computers and applications they run on them. It's tough to account for every single little point-and-click a user can possibly think of.

I would also agree with AvengerXP's statement: I've found out over time that the reason computer equipment crashes in general is lack of maintenance. Would you drive a car without changing it's oil for 5 years straight? Then why should a computer be any different. It's much more complex than a toaster, and yet the average toaster doesn't last much longer than a CPU. I think it's time people start treating things as they do with themselves. Take care of it/them.

I've come across many computers that don't have the most recent drivers or software upates a ka-jillion programs (and spyware) installed, no anti-virus app. (or if so, waaaaaayyyyyy out of date), yet the woner wonders why their computer is so sluggish. They just dont seem to maintain them at all.
