I got in early on the PocketPC and PocketPC Phones before it was called windows mobile. They were off to a great start with, wireless, web browsers, open development tools (the embedded visual studio was free for years), open development anyone could publish an app, GPS, etc. They worked hard enough to kill Palm, and then just got buggier and worse every year. It was the same as Netscape and IE they built IE until Netscape was dead and then just quit. Windows Mobile became so bad that after years of using and developing on the platform I bought a standard phone and got rid of my Windows Mobile at the time because it had become so unstable it was unusable. Losing calendar entries, failing syncs, crashing often, dropping voice calls...
Then I saw everyone with the iPhone and at first said yeah been there and done that everything on the iPhone I had on windows mobile and more for a long time... The iPhone just worked though, no fighting it, yeah it wasn't open to develop on, but I had less reason to develop my own solutions anyways because it did what I wanted out of the box.
Windows Mobile, had streaming video, flash players, GPS navigation, and many things before the iPhone ever got around to it, but MS let it fall apart to crap and die once they killed the only competitor in the market Palm/Handspring.
Well I have comcast, and ATT since I have an iPhone. Comcast seems to be the only good choice for broadband where I am. ATT I am stuck with because the iPhone is so good that you put up with the second rate service. I would love to leave them both for how they treat their customers, but I don't have any good choices.
so what can I do?
I love it, works great. I honestly don't think full disk is what you want because they can force you to type a password to let them look around. I have a hidden truecrypt file so even if I boot up and they look around they won't see my personal data.
Mostly I keep my old journal, email backups, and other stuff in encrypted file.
I highly recommend truecrypt
If you want to find new drinks I actually drink one new energy drink almost every day and review them. I am actually up to over 200 reviews.
I just never liked coffee but need caffeine through out college to stay up and study (CS major), so I started trying every Energy drink I could find to see if I liked some, and my hobby was born.
My 200+ Energy Drink Reviews
Completely agree that is what I was going to say. I built a website for a few companies when I was 15, should I go back and ask for more money every year they don't replace or change the website? Hell No. They have a few years to make their money then it's done transaction over. I also think it is complete crap when they talk about the artist getting paid for this, The artist 50 years later might be seeing 1% if that off sales after it goes through the corporate accounting system while the industry is still making millions of Beatles and Sinatra albums.
We should stop paying this guy and tell him to get collect money for a job he did in his late teens.
This stuff makes me so mad. Anyways just saying good point, I agree.
The REALLY sucks, and is a REAL shame for the users. The REAL issue is that REAL player is worse than most spyware. In fact I have uninstalled REAL player at least twice as often as I have knowingly installed it. I am REAL sorry for the Yahoo users and would be asking for my money back.
Real should go out of business, they have been crappy, spammy software for as long as I can remember.
My attempt at REAL humor, was REALLY pretty poor, I apologize.

Gifts for Geeks from Seekler
a friend and I our currently debating this topic part of it with good links follows:
>>> Here's a very professional, non-sensational letter sent to
Senators Frist and Daschle from more than 1,000 scientists across the
country Many are from major research universities. Notice this
particular point
"computer simulations do not reproduce the late 20th century
warmth if they include only natural climate forcings such as emissions
from volcanoes and solar activity. The warmth is only captured when
the simulations include forcings from human-emitted greenhouse gases
present in the atmosphere."
This is actually one of the few things that I can find, that the IPCC overall releases reports supporting global warming, and this is why I am still pretty much undecided, they release good research and facts supporting their theory. The problem is even their reports never paint near as dire of situation as all the media tries to report about global warming. It still puts out many good points, but all their findings are less than a degree of change and we have records of other rapid temperature changes in the past such as the link jesse first sent out. Also, we dont have the good of temperature data for more than 100, years or so seeing heating in one half doesnt seem to be a large data set. Seeing some warming when on a large climate scale we are still coming out of an ice age and expecting to be warming (http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/ice_ages.html). In fact the IPCC report says we have shown most of the heating in the last 50 years (and some reports claim it is even more noticeable around the most industrialized countries, because we also are the most deforested, and our gauges are nearest to cities(see below)), but if you look we actually cooled from 1950 until 1975 according to public data.
During the last 100 years there have been two general cycles of warming and cooling recorded in the U.S. We are currently in the second warming cycle. Overall, U.S. temperatures show no significant warming trend over the last 100 years (1). This has been well - established but not well - publicized. (same link as above)
Dr. Patrick Michaels has demonstrated this effect is a common problem with ground- based recording stations, many of which originally were located in predominantly rural areas, but over time have suffered background bias due to urban sprawl and the encroachment of concrete and asphalt ( the "urban heat island effect"). The result has been an upward distortion of increases in ground temperature over time(2). Satellite measurements are not limited in this way, and are accurate to within 0.1 C. They are widely recognized by scientists as the most accurate data available. Significantly, global temperature readings from orbiting satellites show no significant warming in the 18 years they have been continuously recording and returning data.

(sorry for the bold and colors copy and past does weird stuff)
I did have a harder time finding alot about computer simulations that weren't directly tied to the IPCC.
Computer simulations can't reproduce next fridays weather, couldnt predict Katrina until days away, can't predict historic weather based on known test data with in the ranges we have
If i buy one computer with windows XP and 2 years later, that computer starts to break or whatever else, I can't buy a naked PC and load the windows XP that came with my first computer?
Didn't I pay for an XP license already? Wouldn't that be a reasonable percentage of users who wanted a naked PC, they already have a valid XP?
Or does the license say I can only use XP on the original computer it came with. In which case what the hell am I paying M$ for. Software like data can't just be tied to specific hardware, because hard wear comes and goes. I bought a computer that came with XP installed but I paid for 1 copy of XP that I can move around as I wish. I have bought 3 separate machines with XP which means I have paid for 3 copies, even though i have never had more than 2 of those machines working. So didn't I just get scammed?
How does the licensing work, and isn't that considered abuse of monopoly if I am basically forced to buy more license than I actually use?
I run bunch of different websites. That range from pretty to down right ugly as hell... my most popular site by far, which does earn some money from adsense (not a ton but enough for server costs and such), i smy most ugly site... i mean it actually goes against pretty much any design convention you hear about... I dont even run spell check on the page, but it is hugely popular which has always confused me cause i always get angry emails from users requesting i clean it up, but i dont think it ever would have spread so much if it did look pretty and corporate, it makes me underground and honest.
my ugly energy drink website
The movies studios finally found a way to protect thier copyright, by not releasing any media for a new format at all. In a brilliant move no one will ever see movies at a higher quality than DVD, because no movies will ever be released again.
Idiots. DRM has been really slowing down and screwing up the adoption of these new technologies, and they have no one to blame but themselves.
A company will loose millions and getting a starting costumer base, becuase of their horrible copyright decisions. How many years before we start seeing companies blame their slacking profits on making bad DRM decisions or picking a DRM that didnt become the standard.
I hope you loose most of your customers for this Sony your one of the Worst with DRM...
Then again i installed a harddrive on my Media Center Edition and my M$ DRM thought i had copied it all to another computer and wouldnt let me watch my own damn files.
Yeah, but this doesnt just promote crappy sites it hurts legit sites as well.
I run a couple websites nothing huge, but I run one about Energy Drinks now so many companies are pretending to produce original content about drinks because energy drinks are booming. So they "create" more content by stripping any pages they find with similar content and reproducing the whole thing across their site. I found a couple complete spam blogs that had ripped more than half of my energy drink site and had all my words posted on their pages as their own. Which not only helps them. It makes my content not look original, but duplicated. I cant find any way to contact these sites, so i am just out of luck while they abuse my content.
I have also found sites that are adding just random blog posts of mine to their own blogs so that it looks like they are updating multiple times a day.
Lastly for all the people that say produce great content and hits will follow, people still need to be able to find your content. If you made an amazing video but only had it linked once from an obscure website, it means no on but you and your close friends will ever find it.
I love orignal and unique content and wouldnt say everyone putting orginal content on thier sites are polluting the web, but I would say that those spamming random content, building nonsense pages with keyword values. Or posting about nothing with the highest search technorati term as your post title just so people at your blogs is cheap and your site should be deindexed. not just downgraded, but i would love to see a search that promised NO SPAM sites, as you browse report any site and if a enough people report it someone with human eyes checks it out.
Since I dont agree with every opinion of RMS, while i do agree with some of them, I have decided that I can no longer endorse RMS. People tend to lump many of his opinions together, some of which are unacceptable, I can't respect any of his opinions anymore.
Seriously this is crap this guy has gone a bit over the top on many things and doesnt seem to have any idea of balance. I think many things about CC is great and it has already help a lot of interesting works to be produced that otherwise could not have been legally allowed.
If you google energy drink reviews my site comes up, whoopie something i can actually post about with knowledge on slashdot.
http://www.bandddesigns.com/energy energy drink reviews Which I have run for years and it reviews about 150 energy drinks. I have tried about 175 and my thoughts
My favorites overall:
Go Fast, Monster Khaos, Monster Assualt, Rockstar, redbull sugar free
There are tons of horrible drinks out there... avoid ones that are just high in sugar if you want energy your looking for caffiene, taurine, b vitamins, and perhaps some of the other herbs... I would warn to avoid most of the powers or tablet based drinks which tend not to be as effective, and many of the redbull knock offs are very good and half the price, but you need to look around because I have tasted some drinks that are like goat urine.
I liked the flavor of guarana based drinks like bawls, but have found them to not give you as much energy, they do seem however to have a smoother effect that doesnt have a sudden crash like many of the other drinks like redbull.
I also like some of the more natural and harder to find drinks like gorilla juice which is like a pumped up lemonade, which tastes nothing like the overly sugar added drinks that many of the others go for.
I have even got to do some fun consulting for some small energy drink companies and was written up in investors business daily for an interview about the energy drink market. (Hansens makers of monster has done very well in the stock market earning up 300%)

I would be fine sending other corparte people to jail, but how about we start with the Recording industry people that have been caught red handed and admitted guilt in price fixing multiple times, and pay for play radio... Not to mention the price guaging they have been doing forever... CDS ALWAYS should have been cheaper than tapes, CDS always cost most than tapes...send em to jail... We need to stop proping up dinosaur businesses just let them fail and competitors take over... in the airline industry there is plent y of money to be made, we shouldnt be helping airlines that are going under stay afloat, let things go crazy for a couple years and most fail and everything will sort itself out.
wow microsoft must be far more scared of the recent successes and news for open office and the open document format. I thought they weren't paying enough attention to those projects. I have been 100% MS office free on my home systems for 3 years using open office and getting on open office 2.0 just made that much nicer (i still had many complaints about the old open office). Yeah M$ office still has it beat on many levels, but I would say 90% with newer machines that can handle the large overhead of Open Office would be completely satisfied and hardle ever run into a feature which they miss.

This thread and the words in it make me want to go on a killing spree.... therefor speech causes violence, lets get rid of freedom of speech... it causes violence.
from now on all we can say are slashdot cliches, nothing else.
sorta, but the warden is only running while your online playing WOW. In that case i think it is a little different where as most DRM is stuck around perminately.
But that is a good point... So perhaps the warden is one of the first examples of DRM being used to protect costumers instead of copyrights holders.
Definately a valid point though...
I was mostly just ranting cause I am pissed at how sony is treating costumers, and how other DRM has not allowed me to do perfectly legal things like view movies on my projector from my computer (which i can't due through the video out to projector), but I have since learned that I can do if I directly hook my monitor cord to my projector, but this doesnt allow me to use both my monitor and projects at the same time like I have wanted.
I for one would like to sue sony for hating their costumers and making WOW turn into another game that shows you cant play for fun on battlenet unless you password protect your games and only play with friends you know and trust.
Why is it that I cant watch movies on my projector cause my computer blues out the screen thinking I am trying to play to some illegal device? DRM IS NEVER GOOD FOR CONSUMERS!!!
Actually yeah i have run a blog for a long time about energy drinks... I found that spam bloggers trying to make money off energy drink ads and or promote links to their own energy drink have crawled my whole blog and copied nearly all of its contents and made massive splogs that either run google ads or have links all over the place to some energy drink. It is crap and there is no way to contact them to say they are stealing my content... The worst part is that it is working, so many of these fake competition blogs have popped up that i get about half the traffic that i did 6 months ago, because people are ending up at fake copies of my own damn blog with crappy ads all over the place or just spam links to ever dang thing imaginable.
to see the original site:
http://www.bandddesigns.com/energy
and the fake posts that all just have links to my reviews, comments on my site about the drinks and then ads, and spam links...

sorta, but the warden is only running while your online playing WOW.
The worst part is that it is working, so many of these fake competition blogs have popped up that i get about half the traffic that i did 6 months ago, because people are ending up at fake copies of my own damn blog with crappy ads all over the place or just spam links to ever dang thing imaginable. to see the original site: http://www.bandddesigns.com/energy and the fake posts that all just have links to my reviews, comments on my site about the drinks and then ads, and spam links... http://www.energy-drink-and-food.info/vamp-energy- drink.html
Every drink page does this and some have copy and paste of my text.
