When I say "who" I mean organizationally, as I realize 99% of us geeks already use it
Hmmm... I personally cant think of a single person I know who uses Mozilla, Opera, etc. We are all IT geeks, and we all are gladly using plain ol' IE.
Maybe its because we all just like stuff that works, and dont feel the need to complain about useless things like alternate web browsers.
Actaully, I tried out Opera when I first heard about it, and stopped using it for the same reason I switched from Nutscrape to IE 3.02- the damn thing crashed about every 10 minutes. IE is and has been, by far, the stability leader, at least in my experience.
Its not about being a monopoly, its about squelching competition. The business model is currently 1) create junky printer, sell for cheap. 2) make tons of profit on the proprietary ink cartridges
Now you have companies fighting to protect #2, at the expense of the customer. In a free market, if someone can do something better or cheaper (or both), they should be able to win out. But instead, companies are being allowed to litigate away any competition rather than allow market forces to decide.
Honestly, if it can prevent me from having to get 150 junk mail messages per day to my email account, Im for it. What do I care if some goober in the post office can look up that I sent an email to my mother?
I think its complete bullshit that newspapers and other forms of written communication just blatently discriminate against the blind. And the other day there were people singing on the street, being totally indifferent to their complete discrimination against the deaf! Unbelievable!
Another thing- the Olympics totally disregards representing both the physically disabled and the obese. I mean, just because someone weights 450lbs doesnt mean they should at least be given the opportunity to run the 100m dash. Where does it end?
The post office proposed offering email as a provided service long ago. But your complain has little merit, because many spam-stopping plans already propose adding a "cost" to email, even if it is a nominal fee such as $.01/message. A corportation would shrug at having to pay $8/day for email, but would a bulk mailer sending millions of messages per hour?
The problem with people complaining about paying is that, for things that are worthwhile, its not about the money. Eventually you will have to pay for something, you are better off spending money on what you want, as opposed to getting what you dont want for free.
Seems they've decided to copy Apple's idea of fitting a 17" LCD on a laptop,
It may make you feel all warm and fuzzy to think that, but Apple wasnt the first company to make a laptop with a 17" screen, nor did they invent the technology for creating the 17" LCD panel.
The only thing they did invent was making computers in gay colors, and shitty, round, one button mice which can also serve as a hockey puck. Oh ya, and making people over-pay for underpowered equipment- they pioneered that area too.
My problem is not with the matter of eBay providing this information, but rather with their confirmation. For example, if I just send a fax and say Im a law enforcement officer from Asshole, IN, will they just accept my fax as confirmation of my identity?
Now of course that is illegal (misrepresenting myself as a law enforcement official), but since fraud is already illegal, what difference does throwing another shrimp on the barbie make?
ok, for those who never RTFA, here is the breakdown:
budding homosexual (Chris Barton) finds two openly gay individuals who are willing to not only show him the lifestyle, but also show him linux.
Barton is shocked and amazed that people can just copy software and give it to others. After getting over this madness, he is ass-isted with installing Linux. He delves into the mysteries of Defrag, 'dual booting', leather shorts, and mustaches.
He goes into how he will be attending the gay pride festival every year from now on, as well as the linux installfest.
His new OS was installed in 10 minutes, his printer in another 10, and his modem only took an hour or so to set up. How great!
Finally, he is amazed that, unlike w1nd0z3, there are several different programs you can run, and he is no longer confined to one functional web browser, he can now use one of at least three semi-functional versions, and all of them are free, unlike IE.
So now, both his mind and buttocks are open to new experiences.
Im amazed at how fanatical people are about what browser they are using. I started with Netscape way back in the day, switched to IE 3.02 because Nutscrape crashed ALL the time, and have been using MS's browsers ever since.
Sometimes its nice to have something just work, especially when its something as basic as just a web browser. The way I see it, all the 'new features' that they added are just going to bring along new bugs to screw things up. Enjoy!
Wow, if we are going to apply that lax of a standard to what qualifies as working with nanotechnology, then we may as well say I am working with it when I lay a big, smelly steamer in the bathroom.
All those stench molecules! Wow! Im a nanotech engineer!
VAGUELY similiar? It looked like they sawed it down and copied it exactly. Sorry, but even if they wrote their own code and did their own artwork, it still looked exactly like WC2.
I dont think any other industry allows people to create a fake lookalike product, so let them go make fake purses or something.
The problem is when you have a situation where all "truth" is supposed to be handed down to the people from their supposed "enlightened" leadership (like in Egypt), the last thing they want to do is allow any kind of book, movie, person, etc. which will cause people to question what they think they know. I'm not saying its just their religion, either, since the Roman Catholic Church and many other religions in the past have done the same thing.
They may as well start banning any form of philosophy, as well. It must really be tough fighting ideas...
Carpal Tunnel, a majority of back pain, and many other problems are caused by suppressed anger. Reading a book by Dr. John Sarno changed my life for the better. If you have recurring pain, you owe it to yourself to read one of his books- it takes time to correct your thinking, but being pain-free is worth the effort.
Windows comes with a small handful of timewaster games. Minesweeper, and a few card games. Linux on the other hand.... Any admin with half a brain could delete all that with a simple logon script.
But honestly, how long is someone going to play minesweeper or solitaire, anyway? Im talking about the ability to use some Win32 app some other company created, or some custom or legacy program that always crops up.
Interestingly enough, that is the very reason Windows is the desktop king- companies liked being able to use the same applications.
Actually, Palm has a really weird business formula-
1) Create successful product (3com's Palm Pilot)
2) Spin off successful, money making product to its own company (Palm Inc). Very effective way for making sure the parent company doesnt make any of that evil money.
3) Royally screw up company, but try and spin off any successful ideas (like PalmOS) into its own company.
4) Buy one of your competitors, because they make a better product than you. We all know that aquiring other companies is a sure way to be successful!
Well, to be quite honest, I support dozens of Win2k server. And, quite honestly, they all just sit there and do what they are supposed to do as well.
What kind of filesystem bugs do you get? IMO that would be a showstopper right there as far as using a mac server.
I put the comment in my sig because I have thus far been unimpressed with either- the mac 'server', and I use that term loosely, seems like little more than a glorified mac. As far as supporting server class hardware, I think it leaves much to be desired.

MSFT Germany announces a new product- Microsoft Linux!

This just in- scientists are hard at work researching ways of infusing more caffine into Mountain Dew.
Ya, I think the Illuminati is behind it too.
No, because you still have to bury them after they die in the 'retirement home'.
Good post- kudos!

I think they are going to get a firsthand look into the statement "Linux isnt free".

Ya, those damn anti-stalking laws will get ya every time...
Does it play Ogg?
