Rush? Leopard was originally targeted for June '07. They did anything but rush, but you've got to ship at some point and users are always a bit better at finding bugs.

Unfortunately, whatever magic allows Time Capsule to backup to plugged in drives most likely relates to Time Capsule firmware, and has little to do with Mac OS X.

If it doesn't work, completely, out of the box, then this is of no use at all. OK, I'll even give it a pass on the "out of the box" thing and say this. It's gotta work with no more than 1 trip to NVidia.com to get the latest driver package. I call bullshit. I've installed both windows and ubuntu on my current computer, a two year old Dell. Ubuntu did not require a download to display at the full resolution I needed and to get the binary driver I didn't have to go find some random manufacturer's site on the internet, I just did it through an application that came with my OS. As for windows? Started up at 640x480, and, get this, DIDN'T HAVE DRIVERS FOR MY ETHERNET CARD. Microsoft is really going to have to work on this shit if they're going to make any progress in the desktop arena. If they can't get this right, just stop, I don't want to here your whiny MS-zealot crap, I don't have time for it.

However, we also sell StarOffice for $69. an extra $50 off even the student and teacher edition of word.

it kills me when local small business owners come in and buy three copies of MS Word for full price. I really don't think there'd be any reason why your average business couldn't get along with OpenOffice considering if a business needs to buy three licenses, they're going to be out $1200.

$1200 can convince a lot of people to do a lot of things, you'd think using a replacement word processor and spreadsheet to perform basic funtions would be among them.

He basically said that it hasn't been all that long that people have been receiving dvd screeners. When they asked for a copy of Pulp Fiction he was greatly insulted. He said something to the effect of "Are you kidding me? IT'S STILL IN THE F-ING THEATRES. I don't want him sitting at home doing laundry and having his kids asking him to drive them to their friends house while John Trovolta's blowing some guys head off."

I had a CS teacher who told us that you could figure out how long any programming project will take with the following algorithm.

    1) Decide how long you think it SHOULD take (in this case 6 weeks)

    2) Double the number you came up with in (1). (that would be 12 weeks.)

    3) Move the number in (2) to the next order of magnitude of time. If you thought days, go to weeks, if you were thinking weeks, go to months.

Using this, I'm guessing the linux kernel version 2.6.0 will be out in 12 months, or August 27th, 2004.

The problem with this kind of law is that its completely arbitrary, there's no way to measure objectively the amount of video game violence that is harmful, and that kind of law should not be in the hands of law makers, which are subject to being over-zealous in laws that do not affect themselves.
