I agree with everything you say. My impression of Rutan, however, is that he is extremely creative and definitely doesn't go along with conventional wisdom. The man has aces up his sleeve that nobody has thought of yet. So yes, despite itself, NASA has done some incredible things. I believe that is because of the talent that ends up there. The really sad thing is the talent is suffocated under paranoid bureaucracy. NASA should be focusing on basic research and issuing licenses.

I read a story on CNN that said people in New Orleans were paying "as much as" $5/gallon. As if that was a major disaster.

Fsck you, retard. There is a major disaster in New Orleans. Nothing works. No water. No food. And sure as hell no fuel. There's no driving either because everything is underwater.

The inflated gas prices are the result of price gouging in Georgia which has subsided after threats from the governor.

    Here's how disaster works:

Everyone in the disaster thinks "my property value is shot."

Everyone outside the disaster thinks "his property value is shot."

Because people outside the disaster outnumber everyone inside the disaster, property value goes UP because of HIGH DEMAND.

I wouldn't bother with "no effect" after going through 4 Hurricanes in five weeks last year. My property is doing quite well for such a beating. The only thing I despise about rising value is taxes. That's another story.

  20. Honest approach on An Open Source Guide For The Average PC User · · Score: 2, Insightful

The licensing points seemed pretty useless in an article about what the average PC user cares about--using their PC and not spending money if possible. An honest approach would be, "half the junk on your system is illegal. The other half is monitoring you. Nothing is free so stop taking your little pirate gifts from hackers and take some time to use clean, legal, community software." That wouldn't happen in that publication but the fact that this article even ran is a good sign.
