  1. Re:The question is on Regular Domains Have More Malware Than Porn Sites · · Score: 2, Informative

A few rebuttles to your comment and others on this thread. Downloaded plugins and such are not necessary on a website for malware to transfer. All that is necessary is for an advertisement to load which contains the means for a cross site scripting attack. You don't even have to click on anything once you visit the site.

And yes, these attacks happen on totally legitimate sites that are not very discriminating on the ads they run, or whose admins do not properly defend their server against worms/ teh h4x.

XSS attacks are the #1 growing attack technique by far. As long as there is money to be made in infecting computers, techniques will get more advanced as offense is always ahead of defense in terms of Malware/AV software. Simple image and video content is all you need to transfer malware.

I wish it was as easy as saying "Obey these 3 rules and you will not be infected", but that is simply not the case anymore. The people that write this software are honest to God,legitimate, Software Developers. You don't have to like em, but you do have to respect em.

The only way to be 100% certain that you do not end up with malware at the end of the day is not AV software, it's not being cautious, it's not using a mac or linux, it's virtualized environments. And one of these days, even that might not be a panacea.

There could be a thousand different reasons why Rom chips would be superior to an optical disk, and in the end it would not matter. Disks are cheap to burn, and you don't have to worry about commodity price fluctuations. Price to manufacture is the only concern that trumps all others. 60 dollars per new game is high enough, and game companies are not going to decrease their margins on games, nor will distributors or retailers. Any increase in price will be passed to the consumer. Let's face it: We all hate load times. But we've gotten used to them.

The fact that so many people in this thread are nitpicking is just further proof that the future is now. As far as I am concerned, the USB Flash drive is what the Floppy disk always aspired to be. The unfortunate downside to Micro SD is that it is simply TOO small. Too easy to lose/Break. First HD? 20 mb, and I don't even want to talk about how much it cost. A Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc incarnation will always sell like hotcakes, so why not just offer them at a discount price to begin with.

Because if they were to do this, they wouldn't be Maximizing profit. You sell Zelda at the 50 dollar price point initially to customers like myself, who will whip out a check the second it comes out, and you keep it there, so that little billy has time to save up to buy the game at full retail price.

The only reason you drop prices is because after a year and a half, there is plenty of new hotness out there, and chances are, you will get lost in the full retail price shuffle. So you slap a distinctive yellow stripe on top of the box, slash the price to 20 bucks, and sell to everyone that "heard it was good from somewhere" but weren't willing to fork over $54.11 just to see if he would enjoy running around as an elf with a boomerang. Except in your mind, at the end of the day, no changes to administration are made if parties still disagree. This is not always how it works in reality.

For example, lets take a Highway bill, limiting the speed to 55 MPH. One political party likes it, the other party doesn't. But the bill still passes, and we're stuck with 55 MPH speed limits, and a highway bill that cost a suspiciously large amount of cash. Why?

Because key members opposing the bill got various consessions and pork thrown their way by the Party in favor of it. I highly reccomend you wait until the US does something untenable before fragmenting authority over the internet.

But to suggest that it is false to say that inflammatory, and indeed violent screeds do not take place on either one of those sites is foolish. If the parent didn't want to bring partisan politics into this, maybe he shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place.

He's obviously citing something partisan, but I'm not his mammy, It's not my job to defend him, only the main point. In the US, we do not have speech codes of the like that exist in europe. Basically, in order to subject yourself to speech codes, you have to opt in, IE: Enroll in Cal Berkely.

Or perhaps he meant to argue that lying, exaggerating, and taking out of context writings from left-wingers is the only way to demonstrate free speech?

He's going with what he knows here. I'm not about to suggest that right wingers, enviros, or libertarians are immune to hyperbole. But a book was written in the run up to the election in 2004, where the subject was on assasinating a modern president. Pretty hard to take that out of context. Not only was it not shut down, it was lauded by the national press as an example of outside of the box thinking. CURSE OUR TOTALITARIAN STATE!!

I love people that say this to try and "win" arguments. Perhaps you should ease up and have a drink yourself, as you seem about as upset as anyone else here.

I'm not trying to win anything. I really do want you to lighten up. I really do want you to savor some mean barbeque while drinking a glass of lemonade. I really do want you to smile some times.
