This is ridiculous, how does he expect games to get produced? most high profile games are not like writting a fucking text editor, this is a big production that takes talent and money. does he also say that actors or painters should work for free? we're not talking about operating systems and basic system components here (which should be free. Saying games should be free does not (in my opinion) have anything to do with GNU, just because it is computer code, it's not the same sort of computer code that should be free.
this bullshit is what killed the game.. it's one of the best CTF games out there and it died because of the abundance of rpg morons like that. sad to see one of my primary games for years taken down from the level of q3 to that of shitty d&d.
I wrote a paper on this during my junior year of college. One of the psycology proffs told me this would take 25+ years of following a person around... So if someone has the hosting for me to post the paper on a slashdot thread and is interested please email d.w.mead at gmail dot com
90% of schools are on the same level.. unless your transcript says MIT or some such thing it really won't be different from most people. a graduate from my school (www.wcupa.edu) got a 40k a year job right out of school doing database application stuff... and our school a typical university
These guys brag to eachother about how cool their kernals are and trashing ms.. meanwhile my XP box has been running for the better part of a year save for an occaional shutdown to cool off (i use no sides on my case and 2 fans). If these guys wanna agree that windows is a low bar to shoot for these days then their obviously in denial.
i'd say you could develop a shell script to call xmms or whatever at the right intervals... but i suppose you could do the same with a windows script that could work with winamp
a post above mentioned that you could use audacity for this, but that would require some GUI programming which i'm sure is more work than you need to do. unless audacity has alot of support for command line arguments ( i doubt this)
so, i'd go with a windows host script that would call the windows sound recorder or winamp to do your sampling. it'd probably be easy to tag the files with the date and the subject's name or whatever with simple tweaks to the script every time you run it
