Being a double major in CS and philosophy, I found that an intro course in propositional logic was a good seqway into classes like Discrete math and foundations of CS (Discrete structures to some).
Also, if you get far enough, combinatorics and/or group theory would be good for FP.
thank god, maybe they'll cancel the other peices of shit that should never get made but we'll probably see hours of commercials and custom ipods made for...
People in the US actually desire to consume one of these laptops? Do they not realize it's for poor kids? If one of my friends said that in my presence I'd smack them in the face like the mindless animal they are.
Not that I don't like valve or anything... They are definatly talented game programmers but the gameplay for CSS was always really flimsy, so this might turn it into something that could compete with ID/raven on the fun factor.
how many times do we need to hear about what software people have installed on their machines? hasn't it all been the same for the last ohhhh 2 years at least? stop telling us. nobody cares.
how is the school supposed to know if the cell phones are even the property of the students?
chances are it technically belongs to the parents in which case it's an invasion of their privacy.
i remember there was a story on slashdot several years ago (maybe 99 or 2000)
where some guy made a cooler like this out of a styrophome cooler and cooking oil... this is just the same thing 5 years too late
i agree, if your a modder (read: programmer) it's easier to get into the business if you've got the creative chops for it (or so i hear)
i make a mod for jk3 called red slushie (like orange smoothie pro for quake3) and it would be impossible for someone who is purely a graphical artist to get into it than it is a programmer with a music or art backround... thats my 0.2
the idea of removing computers from a school entirely is a GOOD idea, remember that you are bound by the hip to technology at this point (more like a crack head to a pipe) so try to realize this please...
since when is halo 2 considered a skillful game? someone pleeease remind me when constant indicator of game events on your screen wasn't considered something like a wallhack?
to me, a hard game has to consist of at least some combination of rail flicking and strafe running (at least).. what does halo have.. AUTO AIM.
it's a process called deconvolution, right? I did this as a project for sophomore year astronomy... which i believe involved asking on slashdot about it.

I guess this means the cardinal of good kernel design won't be allowed in?

wasn't that a shitty voyager episode? and it wasn't klingon.
these consoles are going to flop for sure. nobody cares to spend 300 dollars on slightly prettier graphics.
maybe it's like a teaser for subscriptions? sorta like free skinimax for a week?
