Well if there aren't any extra "optimised viewing angle" shots, at least she has had plenty of curvaceous shots from her numerous Maxim 'shoots' (ohh er!).
They should have given the franchise a break for 10 or 15 years, let the episodes to rerun on syndication... and have fresh blood when that time arrived to do new stuff (i.e. not rehashed from any other Sci-fi show is doing) as well as renewed interest (if there was any). Just let the TNG crew do the movies.
I am watching Enterprise, but I just enjoy the eps that are good and ignore the others. But the king of Sci-Fi at the mo is Farscape (plus Stargate is equally as good), they at least have the leeway to take the piss out of themselves and get away with it.
There are plenty of us out there to nit pick the entire Star Trek canon:-)
Balance of Terror was a damn fine episode, but they are really going to have to be careful with continuity. Just look at the Ferengi, they got by with saying that 'we can include them because their race name was never mentioned'. A nice way of showing the Romulans is to have a plot line revolve around one of their ships (relating to the catalyst for the war)... but that is my 2 cents.
I'm pleased with Phlox's development, in that he is a very strong character, I especially liked John Billingsley in the Stargate ep a couple of weeks ago, especially his lines about 'the shrine to Gene Roddenbery'.
Note to/. editors, when is Star Trek goign to get it's own section (instead of just 'Television'), Star Wars has it's own!
'fretting mothers' are just a subset one of the worst groups of people (in this context)...'do gooders', or the people who don't like something, but are so short sighted they miss the point entirely (i.e. "Mothers Against Canada" in the South Park movie).
What about the group of femenists (conservatives or republicans) who want pR0n banned because it is degrading to women, what about lesbian and gay porn, are they degraded, are they degrading themselves (isn't that their right to do what they want with themselves)
Oh dear, time for me to get off my high horse (no not pR0n again, plus I'm not into that stuff) and calm down. Maybe I ought to fire up GTA3 and relieve some of my tension (or watch some pR0n).
Over in England, we have a system called GCSE's that you leave school with and are mandatory (then you can do A/AS-Levels and then University).
In year 9 (GCSE's being 10 and 11, I would have been about 12-13) we had one of the most crummiest teachers ever (Her first year of teaching as well - she would leave classrooms crying because she couldn't even control the class), and that was the year we were meant to get a good grounding in Algebra.
Then when I got into year 10, I was put into the top class... and couldn't do Algebra, and had the same teacher who would deride and take the piss out of me because of my fundamental lack of Algebra skills (and didn't actually offer to help).
My parents (at my request) got me private tuition for 2 hours a week for my year 11. And it definately paid off, especially when there was an open day when the GCSE results came out... and wiping the smug smiles off so many classmates (because me being the one in class who couldn't do math) scoring significantly better grades than them... a very satisfying moment indeed.
I agree that a combination of teaching is good, because you are given different enviroments and approaches which can only help in the learning process (rather than dreading going to a certain lesson). And yes, teachers aren't really paid enough over in England as well. My university lecturers were on a semi strike for months because of this, in that they refused overtime, extra paperwork, and just did the required lectures only.
Sim City: Do they include the scenario when the aliens visit?
The Sims: So will it take them 15 minutes to go to the bathroom, and set fire to the simulation room centre when trying to cook a snack?
I thought it was funny enough when games were used for real life scenarios. Esp. the designers of a major building, creating a virtual version in the Quake engine... and then prospective clients/investors took a virtual tour and promptly died when trying to use an evelvator (falling down the lift shaft didn't help either).
Damn pity, they're the only (as far as I know) company that manufacture the GeForce 2 Xtasy GTS-V cards, at a knock down price of $47 (on newegg.com).. a damn good budget card with performance to boot, at least games are now playable on my brothers crappy Sony Vaio celery desktop (urghh!).
So I guess it is case of "buy while stocks last" (for those who are interested of course).
Slightly offtopic I know, but he is good mates with Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, which goes down well IMO.
Plus his work on all the audio for Doom III is excellent, if you want a more thematic music befitting the type of game Doom is (or anything id does for that matter), he is the man to do it.
Plus they're pushing the envelope a bit with the "I would like to see the standard adoption of 5.1 sound across the board". Screw those crappy stereo sound cards!!!
Let's hope they don't hook us up to 802.11b systems, we'll have people driving by looking for open access points.
But then again FCC might not like the signal range, or the RIAA sues everyone - because the brainwave patterns belong to them and everyone isn't allowed to communicate with each other.
I think the best moment I remember was my mate sat next to me killed this guy 5 times in a row (Unreal Tourney), the guy was so annoyed he got up and to walk round and look at the back of everyones computer (which had our player names stuck on) to find him! Mind, it was only a LAN with 15 people - in a condemned community centre!! at least the roof didn't cave in...
...it's moments likes these you can't get on the net, at least not yet.
mmmmmmmm, just imagine Deus Ex 3 using the Doom 3 engine (or even Deus Ex 2, even though the Unreal Engine will be great). Guaranteed eye candy and a great dose of gameplay.
Oh well, just have to wait until Deus Ex 2, and Unreal Tourney 2003 comes out to whet my appetite in the meantime.
I ordered a system off WalMart about 2 months ago (a $399 one, a week before the $299 one came out)... and I was extremely surprised at the quality of the system... I can't remember exactly, but I think the motherboard is an Asus one - not some branded noname.
This machine has since been running as a server with Red Hat 7.3 and has been stable as f**k.
The only gripe I had was that they forgot to ship the mouse and keyboard - which they quickly remedied.
There has been a lot of dicussusions about this on the Trek sites (i.e. TrekWeb) and they've (the studios) have always been saying that about most things. The actors (inc Patrick Stewart) have chimed in to say that if the movie does WELL.. then there'll be another one.
The film will definately offer closure to some TNG threads, especially with what happens at the end... and hence this is where the rumours have come from.
But part of the settlement (I am assuming here) must only apply to the US, considering how much they're screwing our UK schools. Not sure on how the rest of the world fares, but I bet they recoup their losses either way.
Well if it does become implemented, it'll take a while longer for the Police and Courts to catch on, especially in light of how they enforce the current RIP bill (Jack Straw's little ugly baby).
If I remember rightly, in Computer Weekly stories were coming through of how the Police would come into a company and virtually request 'the internet', them not knowing they were enforcing... giving a whole new meaning to "'ello 'ello 'ello, wot's goin on 'ere then?"
This reminds me of the Red Dwarf series, but more precisely the books. Where Kryton the maintainence mechanoid was responsible for crashing the ship he was on because he ran out of things to clean, so he decided to give the (dusty and dirty) live computer circuit boards a good going over with soapy water and a sponge.
I hope that when 3G finally arrives it lives up to (at least some) of the hype generated.
I don't know what the license fees were paid for in the US, but considering that the British economy was propped up with Billions of 3G license money... I'm wondering just how much it is going to cost (especially net return in the first couple of years) the average consumer? The telecoms companies are really suffering because of economic problems (esp. the dot-bomb) and will be looking to this as a lifeline to reinject much needed capitol into their coffers.

Shouldn't companies who offer non-DRM hardware find favour with the consumer
It depends who spoonfeeds the masses whatever crap they want, just look at Hollywood... but the masses are willing take it, and have to like it.
So who would become the digital world's equivalent of Al Capone then?

modeled after the popular Sim* series of games
Sim City: Do they include the scenario when the aliens visit?

gratuitous link to Toms Hardware who are covering the QuakeCon for those who haven't been there yet.
They have info on the first 2 days so far (link is to day 1).

I wonder what Bernard Shifman would make of this article?
What is our 'CS Consultant' up to these days?

Well, anything to at least give you the opportunity to wreak vengeance against those damn pigeons is a good start (like the ad campaign).
Although competitors would have to be careful if flying over large crowds of people, things would get a bit messy.
Well if it does become implemented, it'll take a while longer for the Police and Courts to catch on, especially in light of how they enforce the current RIP bill (Jack Straw's little ugly baby).

Time will tell I suppose.
So if a Pengiun Airlines jet does a fly over of a fleet of parked Penguin Airlines planes, will the planes all fall backwards in unison??
BBC link - old news
Or "If I Had a Hammer' by Leonard Nimoy.
Either it'll make you try and code better, or actually want to put a hammer to the speakers and/or computer.
"Oh look at the meteor shower... why aren't those meteors getting bigger, and bigger and.."
(meteor coming towards them)
"Arrghhhh!!!"
(Song: Paranoid Android by Radiohead - the 'rain down' section)
Moral: Life is like a load of Meteors, you never know you're gonna get hit!
