Actually there are three options: You do, you don't play, or you (and associates who feel similarly) crack the protection that prevents them from playing the game the way they want to.
And i'm pretty sure there be people who object so much to such an approach that it will happen. (Oh, and the warez crowds will be doing their darndest to crack it as well - can you imagine the kudos they'd receive from their peers for such a feat?)
It's very similar to the DK games, apart from the world domination screen (which i thought felt like the gutted remains of a completely different game that was duct-taped onto the island management part). For a good DK-styled game i found Startopia was a great deal more fun (and as a budget title it's a really good buy now). But you never know, they still might be able to patch EG into a great game, instead of a good one.
1) Try the MS download site, not the Windows Update site. (Although you'll have to download the patches individually that way) AutoPatcher is a handy alternative for Win2k/XP/2k3, but the XP release doesn't work with SP2 as yet.
One wonderful quote (from whoever picked the accompanying images, i'd guess, not from the interview), 'Unreal Engine 3 is being utilized on such big games as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.'
You could always use the right-hand Dvorak layout here - windows can switch to it pretty easily (i use the standard Dvorak layout myself on MS Natural Keyboard Pro), and there are online stores where you can get 'custom' keyboards and keytop labels if you want them. (I'm not impressed with the keyboards though, which appear to have just had the keytops switched)
Very separate. I quite like the ability of the LitePC software to allow you to uninstall 'essential' windows components - and still have a working system. Well, kind of. Uninstalling IE in XP pretty much guts a lot of the interdependant stuff, but it's faster and more secure...
I don't just want benchmarks, i want in-game screens captured on those low-end cards. Pretty charts of fps don't mean a heck of a lot; i want to see what the game actually looks like on, say, a geforce 4mx or radeon 9000.
I'd rather see benchmarks for geforce2 and up - i only have a radeon 9000 myself, and can't afford to upgrade anytime in the next couple of months. With gf2 benchmarks at least i'll have something i can point at and laugh that isn't onboard video.
The IT staff already has to clean up after MS... (Although if the computer is unable to access the internet there'll be a few less IE exploits to clean up after)
Grim Fandango was very memorable, as was Fallout... I'm currently replaying Beyond Good & Evil, and i'm struck once again by how good the speech is (as well as the graphics, music, characters, plot, game universe, etc). Then of course there was Sam & Max... And Giants: Citizen Kabuto...
As opposed to the great developers who get closed by their parent companies and (if they're lucky) have some of their members transferred into other teams?
I'd be curious to know when this review was written. The review date given is July 3rd 2004, but it states "The driver CD comes with CATALYST 4.0, RemoteWonder 1.6, MMC 8.1 and an up to date version of ATI's DVD decoder. 4.4, 2.3 and 9.0 are available respectively, so a quick trip to ATI's website will get you current."
The current Catalyst version is 4.6 (posted on June 9th, almost a month ago), and i think with the average time between Catalyst releases being around a month (i'm sure someone can correct me if i'm wrong - probably loudly, and with much flaming) that would make the review a month or two old... (and there are newer versions of RemoteWonder (2.3.0.1 posted 3/19/04) and MMC (9.1, posted 06/24/04) as well.)
And yes, i'm well aware i'm being difficult, pedantic and/or contrary.
I don't know if it currently works with 0.9RC/0.9, although i expect a new version that does will be out soon if needed, but i use MozBackup for backing up Firefox and Thunderbird.
...or you can just right-click on the link, 'copy link location', double-click to open a new tab, right-click in the address bar, 'paste', and press enter... (but i'm just a lazy sod)
And i'm the person who hasn't seen the cinematic or the DVD edition of any of them. (Or the video version for that matter) Maybe once a friend buys them and i can borrow them off him, but i'll save my money.
I do have a friend with a credit card, but i try not to take advantage of his generosity too much (and then only for one-off purchases, not subscriptions) - but that's not the point i'm trying to make. I've only seen one prepaid card here, once, for Ultima Online some time ago (i think it was before the release of the expansion with the 3d client, can't remember the name) - and at the time i couldn't afford to buy the game, never mind subscribe to play it. I've not seen any other prepaid cards make it down here to NZ.
The credit card companies here aren't generous with their criteria for credit eligibility - the one i always trip over is the 'Minimum NZ$20,000 annual income' (and i believe some banks require a higher minimum income). Also, debit cards here are subject to the same criteria as normal credit cards, so they're just as hard to get as normal ones - and most banks don't even offer them, only standard credit cards.
Ok, so i can send Amazon in US my NZ check/money order and not have it returned, not having a credit card to pay for the prepaid card? You seem to have missed the point of my comment.
The problem is when instead of 'a little CG help' they instead rely on 'the huge CG crutch'. Lets hope they focus on the original material, and don't end up with $$$ of flashy sfx trying hide the failings of the finished product...
And, as many, many people have said, what happens if the Steam server isn't around for that initial (re-) authentication?

But we already use windows...? Or do you mean 'Rich, Stupid Masochists'?

3) For windows? I use AVG Anti-Virus.

Good article/interview besides that.

But isn't 'decent copy of the Holiday Special' an oxymoron?
Sounds like the RIAA. Remarkably so.
Whoops, i meant geforce 4mx - i tend not to differentiate between 2mx and 4mx, as neither was (i think) full dx8 capable.

If you're willing to wait until it's caught up to the new Mozilla version (and new Firefox/Thunderbird if needed), you could always try MozBackup...
It looks a bit like Firefox Grey Modern.
