Cellphones screens just aren't designed for in-car/while-driving use. I like my Garmin touch interface. You have to push harder than on an iPhone, where the slightest touch is counted as a click.
So, GPS-enabled phones will surely eat the casual-user market, but on the long run, it may even draw more attention to the GPS units giving Garmin and such a niche.... On a second thought, that is until Apple launches its tablet, designed for in-car use (and kindle use also).
Your point may be valid for some non-latin languages but as soon as you put China into the equation the figures change radically.
China IS the world. They are zillions! If they start using Chinese names it'll be us, "latin speakers", who'll be confined to our "own language and make our sites inaccesible to the rest of the world".

Maybe your point number 8 isn't exactly so. Maybe customers keep buying it, regardless of a minority of hard-core fanatics that complain, yet most of them also probably still buy it. I call it the StarWars eps I-III effect
