    If theyâ(TM)re mentored well, maybe. However, I have worked with several managers who had a crippling fear of high IQ people, and would let them rot. Iâ(TM)m going to go out on a limb and guess 115 is probably enough, with 110 being enough for Ops. An engineering mindset and attitude are probably more important. Empathy helps other be more productive as well.

    Search the pastebins. Plenty of good passwords. Doesn't really matter when a website is storing it as an unencrypted hash in a database with the default admin password still enabled. Maybe this is why the young'uns are cynical...

    I have to wonder if ZFS would help FileVault operate more eficiently. I now have the option to free up slack space in my encrypted Home directory when I shut down my computer. Would ZFS eliminate this step?

    Having seen the videos of child soldiers and forced amputations on the Internet, I would say that the parent's cynicism has some merit. I'll grant that not all African nations are like Angola, the Congo Republic, Liberia, Rawanda, Sierra Leone, the Sudan, or Uganda, though.

    Adobe does not want to make a MacIntel version of Photoshop CS2. They want to release Photoshop CS3 as a Universal Binary. They are trying hard to have a release by the end of this year, but they need to move their development environment from Metrowerks Code Warrior to Apple XCode.

    Maybe I'm not smart enought to know why this post is modded "Funny", but didn't Naughty Dog already use LISP for Jak and Daxter? That's a functional language, right? OP's suggestion sounds like a great one for the PS3 hardware.

    I attended a data security meeting held at the university where I work. We had a guest speaker from Microsoft who spoke on the subject of security. Microsoft is attempting to release security patches more often because their patches are being reverse-engineered in under two hours. The speaker also mentioned that an organization needs to respond to security threats in a more agile manner. On a side note, Microsoft is using agile software practices. Is it possible that they have misunderstood the agile mantra of good enough software?

    I hope that the faces aren't all from Chinese political prisoners killed during torture. Unlike internal organs, which you don't see, a new face is pretty darn obvious. Would the recipient have a permanent grimace or terrified expression like a Halloween mask? Young-looking skin, though.

    I'm pretty sure that Acrobat Professional allows the use of JavascrIpt when creating PDF forms with calculated fields. I'm assuming that a JS parser is built into both Pro and Reader.

    Do what my mother did...set a wind-up timer at 60 minutes. If his mind wanders and he doesn't finish his homework in an hour, beat him. I'm not sure it helped any as I'm comfortable with procrastination now...but it should toughen him up some. He's a boy, so that's got to be worth something. It'll make the older fellas here happy.

    I saw the PowerEdgeTM SC420.

    Let me know if there's a cheaper one. I brought it down to $428.00 by removing the second hard drive and giving it the lowest cost Celeron. I had to add in a DVD/CD-RW combo drive, though, to make it the same as a mini. The non-promotional price is $598.00. Being a PowerEdge, its probably a bit bigger, heavier, and louder (I still suffer from hearing loss when I had to sit next to a PowerEdge at work several years ago).

    Of course, if you used reeeaallllly long microphone cables, you could record music without the fan noise showing up in the background, and even leave it on at night to download the latest linux iso. Also, If you start to get out of shape, you could lift it a few times for a good workout. Faced away from you, this server makes a great indoor fan/space heater. On the plus side, there's a one-year limited warranty at that cost.

    ...because I just got my iBook yesterday.
    Uh oh. Its rumored that the the iBook, eMac, and iMac are getting updated this month. A bump up to a 64MB graphics chip in the iBook would allow it to use Core Video in Tiger (good if you want to work with Motion, for example).

    The best theory I've seen yet is that Microsoft brought a war to Sony's doorstep in order to protect a developing Home Entertainment "Media Center" market. They are concerned enought about Sony competing in that market that they are willing to face losses in the game market.
