Sorry, I was simply using that as an illustration of the UD's lack of authority. I chose sassafras (sort of) at random, as my clique uses it as a slang term (although our usage is not on the UD yet*).

My point was just that though UD can be more accurate for slang, it isn't always. As far as words that have changed a lot, I can see the UD being an ok starting point (at least probably better than my Shorter Oxford, 1973), but I always take its def's with a pinch of the ol' proverbial sodium wossname.

    *sassafras: a whole world of hurt; pain; undesirable consequences;
eg: "Keep on like that and I'll bring some sassafras to bear on your ass."; "You'll get some sassafras if you don't get off my property"
As in "Make him cry sassafras"

I'd like to point out I'm not trying to be a dick here, but I wouldn't consider the Urban Dictionary a reliable source for definitions. It can be useful to some degree, but sometimes it can be off target. See definition 2 under sassafras
(the word sassafras comes from sassy? sure).

Anyway, I live in Australia, and I felt the use of the word "chick" was, in this context, a bit disrespectful. I agree that it can often be used in a friendly way (and I've used it often), but it just seemed flippant and inappropriate in this instance.

There are good reasons why Go has proven difficult for dirty rob'ts to deal with. Go does employ a discrete set of rules, but the increasing complexity of the Go board as the game progresses has given humans the edge until now. Dark City - pretty cool film, yeah.

Kiefer's acting in it? I felt it was a terribly hammy, overacted performance with little depth. It seemed to me the character had no characteristics besides nervous breathiness (or is that breathy nervousness?).

That said, he has done some good work in the past, although I am doubtful that voice acting in a cartoon is going to be a huge plume in his head covering.

Not really adding much, but just agreeing with much of what has already been addressed.

I must first confess to occasionally answering my mobile phone whilst driving (despite the lack of a handsfree kit), but only if I am confident I can do so safely. I monitor the road conditions carefully, and if traffic is heavy, I'll just drop the phone with a "Hang on!" (at this point, I generally pull over).

I find the most distracting thing about talking on the phone is the talking part, not the phone part, thus I will often ask a passenger to pause a conversation during hairy traffic conditions also. By my own assesment of my abilities, "hairy traffic conditions" are pretty much anything more complex than a long, straight road with nothing else on it. Driving is a potentially dangerous activity at any time, so adding extra danger is something I am careful to avoid. I wish more people would do the same, as I believe inattention and overconfidence cause many of the road deaths here in Australia.

A fraction of a second's distraction can mean the difference between life and death, for oneself, and the people we share the road with. Let's all drive smarter, and safer.

You can't say that Michael Franti is not a musician (Spearhead, worth checking out, inteligent stuff).

Y'now, I was I big fan of Michael Franti back in the day, but now I am not so sure how I feel about his music. When he and Rino Tse released (as Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy) "Hipocrisy Is the Greatest Luxury", I loved the idea behind it, the melding of clever rap backbeats with politics. But I later came to feel it was kind of like a "Dead Kennedys" for rap fans - clever political messages barely hidden inside a popular style of music. It was CLEVER rap, but I think too clever for the time, and the audience. I saw Franti perform live with Spearhead some time ago (I won't give away my age by saying when), and the show was good, but I feel he has perhaps taken the route of music-over-message, in a sense overcorrecting from the message-over-music of "Hiphoprisy".

    Just my two copper pieces.

BTW, I would have to agree that Franti is up there with the smarter examples of the genre (fo'get Cube, y0 8itch a55 n166a2)

I consider my life more important than yours, in fact even my cat has more value than you (to me anyway, as I don't know you and probably never will - don't take it personally). With that said, I consider all life sacred, and would be very upset if I had to choose life or death between you and my cat.

The only person who owns a life is oneself (assuming we keep Your Deity Of Choice out of the matter), which means only one person has the right to choose to make a sacrifice such as "If I choose death, millions of cancer victims will live".
