Right on man. Likewise I hate seeing like 50 computers spread out in my university's library for email/web use only with window$. I mean, think of how much they spent for MS software just to surf the web and spread worms. Linux is the obvious better choice in that situation. *sigh*
Once the doc is locked, OO isn't going to have the key to open it.
I try to use Open Office formats [.sxw] instead of.doc, and even send documents in this format to friends, etc trying to spread the word about OpenOffice.org.
I think OO would gain huge ground if people started using and sending its format instead of Microsoft's format as much as possible.
I mean for college students, it's a no brainer: M$ vs. OO (free!). Hmm... hard choice.:)
[snip] you will wonder why anyone would ever buy the 14
I use a 15" laptop as my main machine. I'm a music composer and the bigger screen allows me to see more music sheet area. That was a factor when I recently went laptop shopping.
And I find KDE a disgusting mess that slows down my AMD 2000+ to seem like a Pentium II 350. Until KDE can perform, I'm a satisfied Gnome user. KDE is bloated and very annoying. If I wanted bloat, I'd use Mac OS.
The problem with idiots is that if you touch their machine once then the next time something *unrelated* goes wrong they will blame you. I've seen it happen too many times.
You're absolutely right. My Dad did "freelance" car repair. He used to be a full time mechanic. He recently changed the oil in a lady's VW Passat(?). She came back to him the next week wanting to know what he did to her car b/c she had problems with the electrical systems which would cost lots of $$$ to straighten out. WTF?!!? After that, my Dad said "Never again!"
I mean, heck, just take a page from AT&T... (actual call!)
Sounds just like Time Warner Tech Support. Try calling in to report an outage: they have some ditsy lady on the phone who says in an annoying voice: "Okay, please reboot your computer!" 'No, it's not my computer, there's an outage and I'm trying to let Time Warner know.' No matter how often you tell her it's not your computer, she insists on that. Why do they hire these people, anyway?
If your attitude is "It's free so it's OK for it to suck[?]"
Not at all! I just think that people always compain the most about something when it's free. From Linux distros, to Wine, etc. Any open source project would be glad to accept their payment to better the app, I'm sure.
But I see your point to all the picking and nabbing of the new OO release.

I can't believe all the negative comments. You guys are so harsh towards something that is FREE! That is one thing that MS Office can never come close to. For many small companies or schools, free is an obvious choice over M$, and it will do the job. I can't believe how so many people here are very picky about little things. If you don't like it, pay the M$ tax and quit complaining.
At first I picked Gnome simply because Evolution is made to work with Gnome- from the Galeon or Mozilla browser, to the palm syncing software. Then, I tried KDE for a little while, but found it too much like Mac OS 10- disgusting and annoying. Anyways, just my thoughts.
An internet tax will do nothing more but hurt internet sales. Shipping charges and taxes?? The cost to buy something "cheaper" online would become a internet myth.
I only use Windows because I got a copy for free. If I had to pay $$$ for as OS, I would stick to Linux- that's a no brainer. $300 XP Pro or free Mandrake? Hmm... Not to hard to figure out!:)
There are several playstation one emulators for linux that work quite well. ePSXe is a good one.
Not to mention the standard SNES, and NES emulators that are rock solid.

This website discussion sadly is more substance than anything I've heard from any politicians.

5109 hits on the ebay page. I wonder what a counter on the slashdot main page would bring in.... lol.

9 - Use M$ Windows
I find Gnome totally unusable and unconfigurable.

Try using an OS that wasn't made by teenagers living in their parents basement.
Boy you have guts posting that.
Ha lol. :) You guys trip me out. Who says computer geeks don't have humor?

Give them a job with IBM or Red Hat. Or with the government. The hackers know more than most people who get hired for jobs.
