I totally agree with you. My wife has satellite radio in her car and it had been a while since I heard it. I rode in her car a couple of weeks ago and the sound quality was horrible. I told her she should cancel and she agreed.
Why not just put the images on a CD, DVD, flash drive, hard drive, SD card and any other small cheap storage device you can think of? It wouldn't cost very much and surely one of these devices would survive 25 years and still be readable and I can't imagine USB going away in 25 years. Hell I bet we'll still have PS/2, serial and parallel ports in 25 years. Plus it would be a nice experiment to see which ones do hold up.
Note that adding a discrete sound card doesn't increase overall system power consumption by all that much over integrated motherboard audio.
The difference in power usage between the onboard sound and the Asus card was 13.1W when idle, that seems like a fairly significant difference to me. Also I am no Creative fan but the article seemed written with a bias toward Asus.
The amount of memory Windows is using when you hibernate has nothing to do with the size of the hibernation file. Hiberfil.sys is always the same size, equal to the amount of RAM installed.
I wanted to add that a fresh install of Ubuntu kills Satellite internet for 24 hours because when it downloads all the updates I go over the fair access policy (about 150-200mb). This does not qualify as broadband, I could probably download more in 24 hours on a modem because I wouldn't have to worry about hitting the FAP wall.
The area I live in has no broadband available, I found this out after being told three times by the cable company (Suddenlink) that it was available. My home is 4/10 of a mile from the last house with service and I was unable to even find someone at the cable company (Suddenlink) that could give me a price to run the cable. So no, a few phone calls would not have informed him that he could not get the service he wanted or how much it would cost to get the service run to his home.
I have noticed if DEP is turned on in XP when I look at the folder with all my porn and thumbnails are turned on it causes Explorer to crash. I hope they fix this.
The guy who paid $5000.
Neither Lortab or Vicodin contain oxycodone, they contain hydrocodone.

I don't have broadband and I cannot get it.
Poll finds 23 percent of Texans are fucking idiots.

and I DO want broadband.
I also found a few problems with the article.
From the article:

This guy's film making career is about to get slashdotted.
Wouldn't this work with less RAM say 256-512MB and create a kind of virtual hybrid hard drive? That would really help the majority of users.

How about just erasing the drives and leaving them in the computer when they are donated. It would make the computer much more useful.
Why doesn't this guy advocate blocking all web browsers that include a pop up blocker? A pop up blocker's purpose is to block advertising.
My list of reasons to not shop at Circuit City (and visiting Ohio) are getting quit long.

My neighbor has satellite broadband. One word it SUCKS and it's expensive.

Impale a few monkeys near the crops, problem solved.
I think a 2.5" HDD will connect to the 44 pin connector on the board, the article implied it was only for compact flash.
No wonder Dell and HP are behind this, it will kill the small mom and pop stores who are just barely making money on razor thin margins.
I hate to break this to you, but all casinos "cheat". Thats how they make money.
I read them only when i'm sitting on the toilet.
No more Circuit City for me.
Seems like they would be more interested in eating than playing Tetris or reading books.
