The last time I installed Windows, it took me roughly a day and a half to have everything ready to roll so I could get some work done
You're kidding, right? A day and a half?!? On my "old" p4 3.06 system, I can get Windows XP w/ SP2 installed, up, and operational, in about 25 minutes, toss in the drivers for video card and chipset in oh, 2 more minutes. Install Office in roughly 8 minutes, configure Outlook, and be up and operational with what I need pretty damn quick. If you have so many apps that it takes you that long to setup, you're going about it all wrong. Do it once, make a drive image, and restore from that when necessary (if necessary).
The overhead he's referring to is how many mom and pops will be able to find anything in a linux system (not that they would necessarily be able to in Windows either), but even remotely have a clue how to fix a problem.
My experience is that the myth that Windows has a lower TCO than Linux is just that, a myth. *Particularly* in the SOHO space.
And my experience is that folks like you try to get others to believe that Linux will do everything they need. I can agree with any argument that Linux may be decent in a corporate/mid-size business environment where there's already an IT/IS department with support personnel who know what to do when stuff breaks.
Trying to bolt a phone menu system on to POTS is like trying to bolt a security system on to Windows
Also like trying to say that Linux and OS/X are secure....and Firefox is a better browser...But then again, I'm a realist - my computers (both linux and windows) are as secure as I can make them, and even with it's quirks, bugs, and security issues, I use IE and Firefox.
I guess you don't like going with the mantra of "to each their own"
I expect that would cross the line of States Rights. Perhaps they could enforce it for interstate transportation, but within my state I think there would be a fight against such a thing.
And the govt said that states that choose not to do it, don't get federal money. So the states have a choice - easy enough.
Cept Spybot misses a ton of stuff that MS Anti-spyware doesn't. To be perfectly clean, you need to run AdAware, Spybot, and at least MS Anti-spyware. I'll likely include Norton's (if it finds additional stuff that those 3 don't find).
It's a sad thing. MS catches stuff AdAware and Spybot miss, AdAware and Spybot catch stuff that MS and the other miss....It's almost dumb.
And if you think an intel MB that will support this will be $250 to $300, I want some of what you're smokin. Of course, that's like saying "hey, when the new 939 processors came out, I had to upgrade my Athlon motherboard to support it" - of course you prolly did. That's a given.
That a lot of the people here who are OSS fanatics that openly admit to having XP installed on some machine to play certain games on and whatnot, don't realize that they're pirates, or don't care that they're pirates....Ah well.
Yeah - but the thing is - is the performance worth twice the price? Being that's the only way you can go with AMD right now - paying twice as much (if not more) for their dual core chips compared to Intels.
Maybe the Aussie companies will keep more programmers employed since everyone you lay off will go out and code for your oss competitor.
But what if your company makes OSS software, and being OSS, they don't generate the money anyways to afford to keep you, thus you lose your job. Since you're now unemployed and getting state money, technically, you could continue to work on the previous employers projects, since they're OSS, and not get into trouble. Yeah. I can see some companies that are using OSS programmers doing this. GG.
I think the state should go ahead and just force you to do something directly useful to the state...like, clean up litter, help the homeless, instead of letting you do what you wanna do while taking state money.
Why bother having any code signing....just accept pgp signed code snippets for inclusion in the main repository of your application's codebase, and let the rest of the world submit and go through a verification process. It's not like you're sending bank secrets out:P
I shouldn't say another piece of music. What I should say is; another piece of RIAA owned music. I wouldn't want to be a hypocrite and charge the innocent independent artists for the sins of the RIAA and their various counterparts.
And if people didn't pirate copyrighted stuff, then organizations like the RIAA, MPAA, etc, wouldn't exist....
Then again, I'm a fan of DRM but also of lower prices because it's the record companies that are price gouging.
I don't see why VOIP people should have to do this. As long as it's clearly stated and agreed to by the consumer, if they take a full VOIP solution as their ONLY telephone service at their location, they accept the fact that there's no 911.
Make people take responsibility for their own actions. I mean, does this mean that to use Skype in the US, that they would have to provide 911 capability?
...consider dumping Windows altogether and switching to Apple's Macintosh..
Please - by all means, let 100 million people switch from MS to Apple. Then the virus, spyware, adware, and trojan authors will have targets sufficient of their time and energy, and then the world will see how idiotic people are for saying "...is more secure, stable..."

Funny - I thought that it was the networks' responsibility to cancel shows that didn't get "enough" viewership.
Guess times have changed. As long as grandma and some guy in a closet in Lithuania watch a show, they better not cancel it, or it's "unjust"...riiight...
By allowing (condoning, actually) this sort of activity, Sony is ensuring that this game dies a slow and lingering death. Gone are the days when all you needed to excel at Everquest was a good internet connection and a complete lack of a life...now you need the cash, too. People with money will be better equipped than people with no money...those with no money will quit in disgust, and those with money will lose interest after they run up against enough other players with enough money to equip themselves well. Fortunately, those who don't want to participate in this mercenary practice will have the option to play on non-Station Exchange servers...that is, until a majority of the players on that server want the server to be a Station Exchange server...in which case you'll have to find another server...sorry.
Umm, you're aware that this already happens under the table, right?
...and had more viewers, this wouldn't be an issue. I like Star Trek...I hated Enterprise. Better to kill it, than to waste more money on a show that doesn't pull in the advertising. I couldn't see Paramount selling rights to anyone else.

That most Open Source advocates, when faced with nothing to bitch at (Microsoft) will bitch at anything (OpenOffice).
Wait, I know. If they don't like it, they can write their own or use something else! Imagine that!
The RIAA asked for DRM. iTunes gave you DRM. Apple sees a way to leverage this technology to their advantage and you cry foul? Grow up.
Sad thing is - the artists still don't see very much money from selling their songs through iTunes =/
If only the record companies would sell CD's for $5-8, all would be well in the world.

as AMD is making you look pretty silly right now.
Yeah - but the thing is - is the performance worth twice the price? Being that's the only way you can go with AMD right now - paying twice as much (if not more) for their dual core chips compared to Intels.
Funny that.

Did I say a single word about when pirates started existing? No - go away troll.

Too bad I downloaded firefox 48,000,000 times - so the number is all moot :P
I don't want to hear from anyone who uses AOL anyways.
Submit your IP to the blacklist services and they won't have to hear from you, either!
That they missed it -- and ignored the bin Laden threat completely during most of 2001 -- is not excusable.
And we're all so sure you'd do so much better...
Right.
