A "Free" OS will also never make things like audio production "Free." Anyone really interested in computer audio production will have to spend tons of cash on hardware, regardless of platform. And if you're going for a Pro-Tools or equivalent setup, the $3k you spend on that top-o-the-line Mac is peanuts compared to EVERYTHING else.
I tried the linux turn-key solution from Eastman and found jackit to be a bear for my novice experience. Everything seemed like it should work, but in theory and all that. Ecasound is definitely a cool idea, but c'mon. Too many technical details that have nothing to do with music production.
Not to mention that ANY free plugin will never sound anywhere near as good as a WAVES plugin.
If I was a soldier, with the current state of technology, I wouldn't want any sort of automatic tourniquet built into my clothes. I'd rather bleed and wait for the medic.
MiniDisc kicks ass. But why, oh why, did Sony cripple the file transfer capabilities???
It is my understanding that the only way to get an uncompressed audio file on to a minidisc is by recording it yourself. All files transfered from a CD through the provided software to the minidisc will be compressed.
So why can't I transfer any uncompressed audio files directly from the minidisc to the hard drive? They obviously cannot be unauthorized copies -- they're my recordings.
the cost is often to society as a whole, when it has to clear up the resulting mess.
Right. Making victimless, self-abuse a crime results in a cost to society, because now there are more crimes and more activities where one must associate with criminals if one wishes to participate in those activities. Your point?
That's like the lastest free-vibe commercial--You think there should be crack at the corner convenience store? No, I think we should spend several billion dollars employing people who don't/can't make a difference.
BTW, if drugs were legal across the board, who in their right mind would be buying crack? Crack is a cheap substitute for cocaine, because coke is fucking expensive when you're talking about $20 blowjobs.
I'm a Reluctant Messiah as much as the next guy, but I don't think that Richard Bach would be down with your post.
If Learning is finding out what you already know, I fail to see how that leads you to define what intellect is for everyone.
Richard Bach wrote about knowing yourself, and using that intimate knowledge of yourself to make choices in life. He did not write about using knowledge about yourself to figure out deep metaphysical issues which will lead you to the way public policy ought to be made. I think he was clearly against that.(Tale of "the pages" in One).
No specific reason. I gues that's how she was referenced by my family members, who live there, that took me to the market. I really have no agenda by mentioning her religious/cultural affiliation, and I really didn't think about it too hard while I was there, that people cared to mention that the store owners were Muslim. When you go from Madison, WI to Cebu it's probably the last thing on your mind:-)
I'm just happy to already have my copy; I think it's a neat souvenir of the trip as well as being a watchable DVD.
I was in the Philippines over the New Year and I came across a very nice Muslim women who sold me an awards screener for The Two Towers on DVD for $2 US. I have seen the movie in the theater(obviously) so I can attest to the screener's validity and quality. Basically a pretty dope find, and the whole movie is on exactly 1 DVD(huge plus IMHO).
I also bought all 3 Indiana Jones movies and the first 3 Star Wars captured from Laser Disc on DVD. Total cost: $14 US. Arrrr Matey!!!
Slam Dunk is an awesome cartoon. Nowhere else have I ever seen 3 seconds of a high school basketball game take 30 minutes to complete. Edge of you seat stuff.
FBI agent 1: Wait a second. ..[looks in database]. ..This guy isn't an international terrorist. He just had some weed lying on the table when the cops showed up to tell him to turn down his stereo.
FBI agent 2: Don't worry about it. The system is replete with inaccurate, untimely information. Wrong is wrong, right?
From the link: Does the atmosphere (or any greenhouse gas) act a blanket?
At best, the reference to a blanket is a bad metaphor. Blankets act primarily to suppress convection; the atmosphere acts to enable convection. To claim that the atmosphere acts a blanket, is to admit that you don't know how either one of them operates.
Not that I buy his semantical reasoning. He just disputes the fact that greenhouse gasses act as blankets.

This is not as hot a party as I had anticipated - Apu
That's exactly what patents were created for! To allow the "little guy" to innovate, and benefit from those innovations.
No!!! IP laws are evil! They are outdated and wrong! There is no purpose to them other than giving the man a tool to keep his jackboot on my neck!
If you don't believe that IP laws are good, you are advocating slavery.
Bush in 2004!!!!
Yeah, I would have dipped my finger into the "upward" flowing water to see which side the water ebs on. :-(
Cupboard???
Honestly, the peeping tom aspect seems much more appealing. Put AIBO in the bathroom/bedroom while the sister in-law is in the shower/changing, etc.
pr0n dictates innovation.

I agree with this post. The Savior would have chosen a GUI.

I never thought I'd discuss Richard Bach on

Wouldn't that be more of an anarchy? No rules, etc.
What about Stingray?
IMHExperience, everything named Stingray was cool, and Phoenix was definitely worthy of such a name. Firebird is a pretty weak allusion to Phoenix.
i need to stop coming to /. stoned.
I wouldn't recommend it.
It's like, if you study for a test stoned, or something, you need to keep getting stoned.
Interestingly, I wonder exactly who the U.S. has employed in its counterterrorist operations.
They probably outsource it just like corporations do.
Again, remember WW2. It gave us radar, IR optics, jet aircraft, rockets
It also gave us <Homer doing Mr Burns Impersonation>Nuclear Power</Homer doing Mr Burns Impersonation>
Which gave us the Simpsons.
So to recap, war is good for society as can be seen in the Simpsons and other fine art like Starship Troopers.
What?!?
Are you a fetus?

A-fucking-men to that!!!
CO2, like any greenhouse gas, acts as a blanket, keeping warmth in. That's not in dispute by anybody.
This dude would seem to dispute that.

The parent is hardly off topic if you have any clue as to what the story is about(Cowboy Bebop Movie).
It's like me saying, "I like these old school games. Back in the day this was all people needed."
Weak moderation, very weak. Would you rather he spoil the movie??
Or man-in-the-middle spoofing :(
