So the free will of the universe really equates to Destiny. I wonder if I could exert my own free will over the universe... the two seem hardly comparable and if they were, perhaps our own tiny impact of free will is what allows us to break free of Destiny if only for short periods of time. The whole concept seems almost... romantic.
Does that mean the Earth will be blown up to make way for a interstellar bypass this Spring? And I just finished paying off my college loan! I mean, I'm all for progress in the name of progress, but at least set a definite date of demolition. On the plus side, I'm gonna be sloshed for the next few months every waking minute!
Read the writing on the proverbial wall people! Doom is coming and it's color is yellow!
I have a question for you as in my dealings with the majority of people trying to convert them to Firefox, it goes one of two ways. Firstly, I might explain to them why I use Firefox (No viruses, safe, easy, and I love the tabbing system which IE7 sucks with). They're almost always interested, and by the power of my nerd-rimmed glasses I get them to install Firefox or at least say then will, in reality who knows what they do at home.
The other way this usually progresses is they say something along the lines of, "How do I connect to the internet then if I don't use IE?". Then I spend the next 5 to 10 minutes attempting to explain Firefox and IE connect to the SAME internet; usually ending in failure. I know this is a communication issue, somewhat on my part, and partly because of their ignorance with technology.
Your link simply made me think of this issue, and I was wondering how the rest of the Slashdot crowd (and yourself) handle this issue, where the communication between an person who is uneducated or misinformed with technology can be broken out of this 'jail' of improper knowledge.
My friend and myself made Health and Mana potions using Skittles, Vodka, and coffee filters. We put the finished product in glass containers and drink them while we play video games... you know for power and health.
I think you're completely right, especially about TV shows. I think that's partly why Firefly did as well as it did in DVD sales. They didn't wring the same formula through a dozen proverbial dry cleaning seasons, and so it stayed fresh right till the very end. There was no point where it went over the hill, or "Jumped the Shark". But that's the point where money meets artistic interest, to do something to keep your actors/actresses, set crew, and all upper management employed... or to do something right but finish within one season.
Wasn't Wikipedia having issues for getting enough donations this last year? Somehow, expanding to video content seems a bit foolish at this point in time if money is already tight and is likely to get tighter for the next fiscal year.
I suppose this goes without saying, but clearly the kid had other issues as well. When my own parents took away the tv/videogames/sugar, I simply defaulted to my friend's houses. Usually during school hours.
If you read the article you just posted, she simply didn't want to be in a position where she would be accountable for what she said. Sounds bad right?
My dad works in a high position in an international company and me, getting into the working world the last year, and him sat down to have one of our many talks about office politics. I showed him some of my many notebooks I use to document all the projects I have to do. He responded in kind of a story about his company being sued over a project he had been involved in; at the time he kept similar paper notebooks. He was terrified at being called in to testify.
Now I should explain, my dad is about as straight shooting, honest son-of-a-gun you ever knew. To this day he does not allow people to put mp3s on his computer. He paid a speeding ticket when he went to Panama, a country where it's common and accepted as Status Quo to bribe the cop who pulled you over. So why would be he scared to be called to testify?
Lawyers for one, they're professionals at twisting words and documents to their stories. You just don't know how they'll take your simple notebooks and use it against you; and you could then be held PERSONALLY liable. Needless to say, after the trial, my dad destroyed those notebooks.
Point is, just because you have nothing to hide, doesn't mean you won't be found at fault.
Their dry wit and accented English have given me many days of enjoyment.
Not to ridicule them, but to laugh with them and enjoy their culture. (Hobnobs and Pubs mate)

But don't rain on this parade, we're just sharing our appreciation among the community for an author many of us grew up engrossed in his books.
It's not that they would have upped the price, they *can't* up the price a few bucks. How could you up the price of the 360 from 299.99 (or whatever it is) to 301.52? Microsoft would be forced to leave it at 299.99 and Microsoft would eat the additional cost.
Console makers (with the exception of the Wii) have long sold the consoles at a financial loss assuming that they make their money back on the sale of games. And because you can't just up your price a buck or even 50 cents, they eat that cost in a nasty way over a couple million units.
Actually the 'no faithless elector' bit is not true. Back in the 1820's Monroe was elected during the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Era_of_Good_FeelingsEra of Good Feelings by winning every state. William Plumer voted the sole Electoral Vote, out of New Hampshire, even though his state went Monroe's way.
I was taught that it was because no one wanted to beat Washington's electoral record, but it is far more likely that Plumer simply did not like Monroe or his policies.
There is so much truth to this. I went to PAX for the first time last year (and I'm going again this year, driving down to Houston from Dallas, and flying up) and the thing that struck me was how they don't sell games there. They showcase all these awesome games and you really get your consumer head going; but the total lack of stores there makes you realize; hey this is a Con for people who just love gaming.
Will Wheaton gave an excellent Keynote last year (and hopefully he's there again this year and I can have a chance to play some Smash or something with him) but really brought together my floating thoughts what it means to be a social gamer. In some ways it's simply parallel play, but PAX is about getting together with your best friends, going to have a blast and enjoy everything about gaming.
I'm no wordsmith, but this article comes as no huge surprise to me; PAX is awesome (and hopefully it continues to be).
What really irked me was how Lucas and Lucasarts 'approved' all these expanded universe books and gave them their seal of approval. Then they turn around and just destroyed the whole expanded universe in the prequals and claimed the expanded universe was untrue. I know that makes me sound fanboy, (and I am) but I just have a harder time accepting the Prequals and Canon than the Expanded Universe.
I know that's pretty backwards, but those stories had so much more depth and better characters to them. I even went back to re-read the Timothy Zahn series just this year, and came to the same conclusion as you.
That's just what truck stops need. Half of the breakfast bar lined with hardened crusty old men. The other half with pocket protectors and thick jaded misted over glasses.
TFA links to an associated press story that they got their information from (practically copypasta... god I hope that becomes a word in the vernacular) and it states Malware is now an official word, ie in the W-M dictionary.
So this brings me to a tech question! How is this different than a term I've been hearing around the office, "Bloatware". The context for bloatware is cleaning crap off of a computer it came installed with, that generally slows down the darn thing.
I also read an article from the Houston Chronicle about the export industry booming. I don't know if these are related, but the weaker US dollar has had a hand in making US exports be more attractive to foreign companies. Cheap US Steel + cheap importing costs = win for the US.

Yea! I can point out a bug right now from all those games: YOU STOLE MY SOUL!

Hyuk hyuk, guess what happens when you get a stale news story about a mac?
You get a rotten Apple!
The author's head is completely up in the clouds...
Dude, I just tried that the other day. They make a killer dark beer. I'm moving to Delaware!
