  1. Re:Good on DRM-Free Games Site GOG.com Gone · · Score: 3, Insightful

    That's a blatant lie.

They offered old games that worked on modern systems without tinkering. Can't get that on Piratebay. You sure can get dubious "cracks" and viruses though!

  2. Re:GOG was great, but Steam is easier on DRM-Free Games Site GOG.com Gone · · Score: 5, Insightful

Having purchased games from both GOG and Steam, I'd pick GOG over Steam any day. I'd argue that Steam made it more complicated, if only because they force you to install and use a client. And then it forces me to download the game again if I choose to uninstall it from my HD. GOG was a simple download and install, always. I never had to download the game again after uninstalling it, I could just burn it to DVD as is, or move it to another HD.

Before anyone criticises SD on technique or outcome, read the caveat he placed at the beginning of the article and get a grip on reality. John is a liar who has not reformed in the least. His comments must be treated with great care and a lot of healthy skepticism."

I've noticed some comments here about how the interview sounded fake, or that it was some sort of scam. I do believe that's because "John" is not being truthful. The interviewer not being a trained journalist probably compounds the problem.

  5. Bell's Games Mania did it years ago on New Game Download Site Offers Play-As-You-Download Service · · Score: 1

When I worked for Bell, I got a few tokens for a free game or two. I chose to play Syberia, an adventure game, and it went pretty smoothly. Except for one thing, the system wasn't smart enough to warn me that I didn't have sufficient disk space, so I had to clean up stuff from my HD before I was able to resume the download. It didn't really impact my gameplay otherwise. The other game I tried was a WWII FPS, whose name escapes me. Medal of Honor maybe? That also worked pretty smoothly.

  6. Gothic series on Dungeons and Desktops · · Score: 2, Interesting

It seemed as though the review is implying that the Gothic series belong to 'bad' CRPGs. I couldn't disagree more. So far I've played the first and second, and it's doubtlessly one of my favorite CRPG series. And this is from someone who has played and enjoyed many of the Bard's Tale, Wizardry, Magic Candle, and Might & Magic games, and yet doesn't even like Diablo. Granted, I've had the benefit of patches, and playing these games on an above average PC when taking the requirements into account, both factors which probably hurt this series.

  7. The 'original' storyline on Iron Man Released · · Score: 1

It doesn't actually matter if the movie accurately follows the 'original' comic book storyline. The comic book is 40 years old. Even its publisher, Marvel, has had to change Iron Man's origin to keep it consistent and relevant, and that's not taking into account the 're-imagining' of Iron Man in the Ultimates series. With that said, it might surprise some people that the anti-war message (or at the very least, Tony Stark putting a stop to supplying the US military with advanced weapons) is actually lifted from the comic book itself.

  11. Re:Magic Item Requirement on Ask the Designers of D&D Fourth Edition · · Score: 1

In the preview material and interviews, it has been said they will be addressing this. As I recall, it was particularly bad for fighters (at least in my campaign it was). They want the characters to be able to rely more on their innate abilities, with magic items simply being a nice bonus.

  12. Re:Thank you, now stop on Ask the Designers of D&D Fourth Edition · · Score: 1

I'm sure I read somewhere about this. I don't recall if it was on WotC's D&D site, or Wizard Presents: Races and Classes though. They won't entirely get rid of the old spell system, but I do know they are categorizing spells as 'at will,' 'once per encounter,' and 'once per day.' And wizards, according to their level, will be getting slots for 'at will,' 'once per encounter,' and 'once per day' spells, which they choose when preparing their spells. Magic Missile was given as an example of an 'at will' spell, so a wizard can fill his 'at will' slot with Magic Missile. A Sleep spell, on the other hand, was given as an example for 'once per day' spells.

That way, wizards will never actually run out of spells to cast, but they must still give some thought to which spell they should prepare/cast, and when.

But to properly write a counter notification, you need to know the identity of the (supposed) copyright holder. For example, perhaps the takedown request was filed incorrectly, or the people who issue it might not even be the actual copyright owner (such as was the case a while back, when Youtube took down a man's video that he had recorded on a MTV show, even though he was the actual creator and that it had been used by MTV without his permission).

"The massive, growing black holes, discovered by NASA's Spitzer and Chandra space telescopes, represent a large fraction of a long-sought missing population." They key points here are 'long-sought' and 'missing population.' They knew there were more black holes out there than they had detected up until now. That suggests to me they took this into account as far as the dark matter theory goes.
