  1. Forget the city... on Is Tech Bringing Us Closer Together Instead of Allowing Us to Sprawl? · · Score: 0

The availability of wimax allowed us to move out to a rural area. That coupled with satellite TV made the decision easier. If it wasn't for these two we would never have made the move. We now live on 3 acres in the country in absolute silence and civility...unavailable in towns and cities.

When you grow up and stop wetting your diapers and buy a house and all that, you want games that you can enjoy with your spouse. Gaming is such a solitary activity, and dumping 2 hours a night into a game to finish it isn't in. I hope that the new Nintendo system has some revolutionary games that everyone can enjoy. I like the idea of the new controller, it promises a whole new genre of games that havn't been thought up yet. If you're a pimply teenager first-person shooters and RPGs are fun, you can spend hours a day in your parents basement playing against other pimply losers online. I want a game I can pick up and be playing in seconds, not 5 minutes. I want a game my wife can enjoy along with me.

The French are a problem no matter where they are in the world. In Canada we have Quebec where the French are always moaning about how their language is under attack. They even have language police that go around measuring how large the French sign is next to the English one (the French one has to be larger, of course).

I still would love a plugin that lets you "grab" a certain whitespace in the webpage and drag it just like you can with a PDF. It just seems more elegant than a scroll wheel. Links might pose a problem, but with a click and hold in a whitespace it could work.

This is where the design of the iMac is really nice. Volume buttons on the keyboard that control the master volume AND all apps recognize this in the *displayed* volume on the screen. Of course this is even nicer with the built in speakers on the iMac (which arn't that great). This nice integration gets thrown out as soon as you connect external powered speakers though. My Linux machine was nothing but trouble with different volumes everywhere. When you try to play a movie with mplayer I had the crank the volume way up. And then when an IM message came in I jumped out of my skin becuase it was so loud.

  19. This is the future on Apple Releases Mac Mini · · Score: 0

This is where personal computers are headed. Microsoft has wanted to do this for years, but the problem is is that they don't control the hardware. Apple can design a computer any way they please, as long as it runs OS X it doesn't matter about "form factor". PC's have to become appliances. Who cares if the mac mini isn't upgradable? In a couple years, buy a new one. This machine is better than the iMac concept becuase your pretty 20" lcd won't go obsolete when the computer does. This machine is also powerful enough for 80% of the users out there who just browse the net, download some photos from their camera and type a document now and then.
