I had a similar situation in my last job, where the more work i did or the faster i did it, the more work i got. When i started dosing off and reading slashdot between tasks workload dropped! This caused me to freak out and quit.

I think the problem is the amount of people who simply do the bare minimum of work to get by is massive in comparison to people who just want to get the work done.

Was away for weekend and didnt have net access so bit of a late reply, but of course I tried restarting the service. May have been a windows admin but that doesn't mean im an idiot :-) Im currently in a pure *nix environment so im not the kind of person who reboots just to fix every little thing. The crazy thing about it was that it would renew addresses just not give out any new ones.

I would second this as i worked in a pure 2000 domain but if you actually think about uptime exactly how often do win2k servers reboot? We were generally rebooting the things every couple of weeks due to patches. Leave one up for more than 60 days and things start to get wierd. For instance our DCHP server decided to stop giving out addresses. Reboot and it was fine. I would definately consider this as unstable.

My sysadmin wanted to "upgrade" to a big, better, faster sonicwall product (the previous sonicwall product liked to download firmware upgrades and crash itself. Nice) I just said give me 2 hours and i will have i new firewall running. He laughed and said thats something id love to see. 2 hours later after hunting in the basement for p166 and downloading smoothwall there is very little we can throw at it that it cant handle , sysadmin is now a manager.
