I suppose you could send a bitmap that depicts basic logical operations. Then you send a picture about a network of logical operations that references those in previous piture but uses less information to represent them (because they are known from the previous pictures). These logical presentations then depict how to process the next batch of information that is more heavily compressed (and has error correction). And then you send the AI.
*Or you could send them an Mac virus that installs the AI into their system..*
Anyway. Reading the article, at least I, got the feeling that constructing that kind of AI might be pretty damn difficult. Oh well, using AIs might really be the best way to communicate..
What? It takes nine months and requires a female operator?.. Well you could try and extract the kernel a little early and it would still come out alright.. *Ahh crap.. OK. OK. I quit and go to sleep now.*
Have you read Manifold: Time? Baxter may have been to something.. *I thought that the choice of the pilot was a little strange when I read it.. Though it made sense.*
..Plus, its a damn good book.. Freaking awesome really.. *Too bad the rest where quite not as good..*
the big question is whether or not the viewers will ever let them LEAVE the bedroom.
How about: the viewers gather the sims in the bedroom, change to edit-mode and wall of the door, and proceed to watch how many days the sims last?-)..Or try to bugger the sims until they set their house on fire, etc.. =)
Besides they'd put censor bars in there right, so what was previously suggested ins't any interesting.. *Tough, that would be the day that even that would be necessary..*
Nah... I just immediately get these horrific mental images about a pen, that when I start writing shouts "It looks like you are writing a letter/poem/..suicide note. Would you like some help with that?"... Aaarghh!
Consumers eh.. So the 100TB would fill up of 1000fps pr0n?

Santa has been outsourced. We had to do it. For the price of one Santa we got 3 guys from India. The elves have been outsourced, too, from China. Which is actually a good thing. Now we'll all get electronics.
..Which brings us a new problem. Since the elves represent somewhat paganistic beliefs, they have been put in prison under suspicion of opposing the government and inciting citizens. Also, I'm sad to tell, the santa spec had some inconsistencies (storage size, sleigh speed, levitation etc.), the project launch has been delayed. Maybe you will see Santa(s) after a week (if conditions/corrected project estimate holds).. *Warning the "ho,ho" might have a slight accent this year...*
Wonder if it is too ineffective to use an orbiting satellite(s) with solar panels and then beam the energy as microwaves down to the landers. For one the microwave receiver antenna assembly might be too big (I know pretty much nothing about this stuff anyway..), and if non-stationary satellites are used then the sending window might be too small for the required amount of energy.
I'm not saying I know, but.. Finland is a relatively small country, so job opportunities might take you elsewhere. Also if you happen to remember the world map, Finland isn't situated very close to the equator; so the weather can be pretty cold most of the year. =) *Of course it isn't inhospitable and you aren't going to run into polar bears anywhere here..:) Though, I for one am waiting for the US to produce some more greenhouse gasses so that we can get a warmer climate here.. j/k*
But the fact that an infant is in the world and receives so many inputs about the surroundings, how can the computer programs make the link from plain words to truly understanding? *Also the fact that you probably need a lot of self reflecting to come up with context for the word that makes sence to you, and hence you can form higher structures of language..*
But to me it looks like they have (and what they say) is they are using (for now slight) AI (+ kinematics of course) to control the virtual actor. Tough if this isn't just a fad and the development continues (as given the similarities to computer games is so big, that they compliment each other, and the need for background animation for hundreds of animations, they will), the AI might get to be pretty good and the need to tweak the animation minimizes. (Their demos, what with those stick-figures, do look like some game engine test for the rag doll effects
I saw one of those cars once.. Many many years ago in some expo. Too bad they all wheren't detailed inside to that same look as in the series. Oh well.. Looking back it is one of the lamest series of the era. *Though Miami Vice, Star Trek etc. get pretty close..*
Well.. Clearly the people of that time didn't like them either and send them to an distant volcano.. *Maybe they where there trying to dispose of some token rings..*

(They also have Chess and Global Thermonuclear War games installed on their mainframes.)

Oh leverage they would need; given the 1/3 of the gravity they were enjoying back home.. =)
Sadly it was only Schwarzenegger's dream that he was there popping his eyes out.. *Or that really happened and we are dreaming..*
You mean put in an advertisement? It this got popular how would that not happen?-(

Somehow I doubt this is what the USAF had in mind... Or maybe they found some WMDs on the Titan.. =)

Well, that kit can be run from 10 to 300mW in 10mW steps. So, it can be dialed low enough to be legal.
Well then, you could tape the whole show with this and watch every word.
Maybe the critics will represent Tom Bombadil. They have pretty much always been, and I bet hold no real interest over this production..

And then the winner (Tron Guy obviously.. =) fights with the bear.
