However, I still thought there was a chance that Adams (or now a predecessor) could reboot the story

Did Adams have another accident with a contraceptive and a time machine?

Actually, large parts of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency were produced at around the same time as the HHGTTG radio series, in the form of "City of Death" and "Shada", two stories that Adams wrote for the 1979 season of Doctor Who.

I played a lot of text adventures when I was a kid, but these days I can't stand anything more primitive than The Secret of Monkey Island. I'm sorry, but endless "guess the verb" sessions are not my idea of a good time.

You can download the source code for a GPLed application and do whatever you want with it without agreeing with the license. However, if you want to distribute your version of the code afterwards then you must abide by the GPL.

If you remove the "use" from the second line of your post it becomes much more accurate. The GPL only imposes restrictions on how you can distribute software. Anyone can use it however they want.

On an aside.. i'd play a MMO space sim.... something the likes of the old X-Wing games or the X^n games.

You might like Vendetta Online, then. Its extreme low-budgetness does show through at times, and the fact that it's been in development for several years means that you're going to see some fairly jarring differences in quality between the various models and textures, but in gameplay terms it's basically X:Online.
