Personally, I think the potential damage to the country caused by a Kerry-ordered recount pales in comparison to potential good for the country of a Kerry presidency.
But hey, that's just me...and obviously the majority of Americans chose Bush. And that's what democracy is all about, right?
don't forget the 300 random red & yellow jumpsuit dancers that pop out of nowhere and being instantly teleported to snowy mountains, green fields, and downtown mumbai in the space of 2 minutes
How hard is to to socially engineer the average mac user?
you wouldn't believe how easy it is. whenever new users come into the "panther" chatroom using ichat, they are told to hit command-L for a list of other chatrooms. 80% fall for it. some repeatedly; they come back and ask for the key combo again, figuring they entered it wrong the first time.
But in order to be a "real invention", it would have to be novel, rather than an obvious, trivial combination of existing elements.
By that token, would you call the bicycle a "real invention"? Some might consider it an obvious combination of long existing elements. Furthermore, whether or not Apple's supposed invention is "trivial" remains to be seen (the iPod sure as hell isn't "trivial").
I would have to say Dune, both the David Lynch version and recent Sci-Fi mini-series. It's heartbreaking how unfaithful and badly adapted both of these films are, with the mini-series as the worse offender.
So if the next bad warming experience was as bad as the one 50 some million years ago, it would mean that people would have to move more inshore (there will still be a coast mind you) and we can live further north and south than we can now. Trama.
wow, how incredibly callous. so you're saying if coastlines flood and desertification forces mass migration away from equatorial regions, it's not a big deal? how about the millions of people all over the world who live on the coast, who will either lose their homes or die in the process? and those inland as well? and all the buildings and developed (not to mention historical) land that will be washed away? even the slightest global warming could totally destroy the world as we know it. unlikely as it is, it's not a joke; this is a big freakin deal.
Sorry for the offtopicness, but perhaps someone has some info:
I have a virgin mobile audiovox 8500; I'm sick of their crappy plan and would like to switch to anybody else. Is it possible to get this phone to work with verizon's network? I have heard of it being done...
Arwen's in Lorien during the events of The Hobbit.
Christ, doesn't anyone read the appendices in LOTR?
we all read the appendices; the parent poster is alluding to jackson's propensity for moving characters and plotlines around to suit his interests. by the same token, according to fotr arwen is not carrying frodo across the river to the last homely house on her horse. didn't you read it?
I realize that some Linux users came from the MS-DOS background, so they do not run X or screen, and they have modified their kernel to disable virtual consoles. They're from the camp that thinks that whenever you type a command, you should wait for it to finish before you use your computer for anything else.
what on god's green earth are you talking about. have you ever hit alt+F2 at a terminal screen?? it's been around for a loooooooong time...X isn't necessary for multiple terminals/multitasking.
try yellowdog linux; it may not be entirely up to date but it's mostly there. i regularly rebuild fedora source rpms to use on my ppc linux box and they also have a 64-bit version for the g5 ready.
also why did they leave out other (admittedly not) mainstream chips, such as via and trasmeta's offerings? i would much more interested to see linux's performance on these chips, frankly.
you know you can throttle bittorrent's upload and download if you use it from the command line (btdownloadheadless.py specifically, available in the python source) and alternatively there is a mac client that has lots of nice features.

you're totally right. i downloaded the mp4 and mov versions that people posted and couldn't see ANY MOON AT ALL...

the first thing i thought when i saw the halo2 armor in this screenshot was CAPTAIN POWER!!
eh? eh?
Preferably by one of those bad-asian-flick re-dub voice actors, clearly re-dubbed and badly synched.
because gee gosh golly, THAT conceit hasn't been overdone...

"amature" is not a word. if anything, it would mean "not-mature," which i doubt is the meaning you're going for.
For the n-th time, "wattage" isn't a word...
Playing devil's advocate.
Somehow I don't think they're going to ignore a guy mugging an old lady because they won't be able to write a report about it afterward.
or vice versa

They link to different news articles that II may interested in.
"II"? What is this? Show me your clone making facilities!!
i agree. fink is still on gnome 1.4.1, which is just...ridiculous, really. (unstable doesn't count, for a number of reasons)
disclaimer: i think tartarovsky's work is brilliant.
this crap better be good...cartoon network is quickly losing my faith, after canceling home movies...for what, more inuyasha reruns?

At the end when Bilbo returns to the Shire he encounters a number of Hobbits in the process of auctioning off his possessions.
;)
well hell we can just cut the ending short like we did with the scouring of the shire.
beware the pchdtv...it doesn't work with cable tv, which really limits its usefulness, imo.

this is bad because now the power company will be able to eavesdrop on all transmissions destroying our privacy!!

moreover, do you think bush has ever read anyone's biography at all, much less in preparation to meet them?
