Sheesh.. what is this.. the day of dis-information? I know/. posters normally don't know much about what they are posting... but the ones in here are taking the cake!
The space shuttle is anything but re-usable. The boosters are not re-used, the tank is lost anyway and after landing, the shuttle is completely dis- and re-assembled.
Check here.. launched, seperated, recovered, cleaned, tested, reused.. that really looks reuseable to me.
As for the fule tank.. of course it is lost.. from the height it is detached, there is no way it could make it back to earth in 1 useable peice.
The third part.. you buy a used car without checking it over? You have to take the shuttles apart after use, how else are you going to make sure it is in top working order. That's why there are/were 5, so one could fly every couple of weeks (remember, NASA orignally said there would be almost 200 flights a year of the shuttle when this all first started). About a 2 month cycle time between a shuttle's flights.
State-of-the-art expendable launchers can haul people into space (and bring them safely back) at a fraction of the cost: use a ballistic capsule with escape rocket and a parawing for enhanced flexibility during landing.
People.. that's great. What about space construction, space research, plant/aninal tests. You can't fit much in a capsule.
The shuttle's only purpose is to fly to the ISS. The ISS's only purpose is to justify the existence of the shuttle. For the Hubble telescope alone, the shuttle would never have been built.
Gee, the shuttle was designed and built 20 years or so before those two.. so, I doubt that. It was designed to carry heavy loads into space, and to carry more than 2 or 3 people so meaningful experiments could take place.
For what it was designed for, a hauler, it is working fantastic. About 1/3 of the ISS structure cannot be launced into space via rocket.. just because of that the equipment is or how it's designed. THIS is what the shuttle was designed to do.
Yes, it is a pricy bit of equipment to run, yes it is old tech. Yes, it needs replaced. But at least post your post with something factual next time... sheesh, another +4 for wrong information.
their track record for the last 25 years is much better. At least no fatalities...
WHAT??? Your kidding right? The Soviet/Russian space program has more accidents than the US has had.. and at least 4 deaths of astronauts. I seem to recal there being a larger number.. but can only find 4 ATM.
and guess who had to step in when the US didn't dare send up another shuttle to rescue the stranded ISS 'nauts
And guess who has been financially bailing out the Russian space program? And remember, the Russians have said they are running out of money for Soyuz construction.
Sheesh, no way the parent deserves a 4.. it's all incorrect information.
Have you seen the book "Unfinished Tails"? It is almost like excerpts.. but they go into more details for certain tails.
From what I remember about the preface, it was stuff Tolken had written, but then took out because he felt it was too much information for the overall story.
I bought a ReplayTV first... but after trying every way to get it to work with my direcTV receive and failing, I called DirecTV and according to the techs I talked to.. Replay systems are "not supported".. they are.. but the DirecTV receiver I needed for it to work was another 150$.
So, I took it back to best buy the next day.
I think looked at rolling my own.. but 1) they didn't compare cost wise and 2) nothing was mentioned with them working well with DirecTV. All the linux/windows packages are geared for Cable Boxes, not satelite.
So, I ended up at plan C).. buy a refirb DirecTV/Tivo receiver. That was 6 months ago and not a problem since. And Tivo is actually cheaper that way.. 4.95$ a month.
You "can" do it with a series 1 tivo as well. There is an option to "Archive" a show, mainly meaning to VHS tape. But I have had it go into my video capture card and store it that way on my computer for later burning.
When was the last time HP made a good, reliable computer?
We have 30 of the X-Class HP desktops.. every one has had a failed HD, MB, Ram, CPU, Video Card and 2 floppy drives.. all within 1 year of getting them.
HP has the issue of most people knowing their computers are garbage.. I doubt Microsoft throwing in more weight will fix that issue.
Yes, I registed and got my.name domain... but to be honest.. I have not used it at all, nor have I thought of a good use for it.. so I am going to ditch it after the year's up.
One of those "Hey! This will be kick ass!" to "Well, what the hell do I do with it NOW?" type things.

A robot such as this can create more G's than you can withstand. If you have ever been in an assembly plants that uses robots such as this, you would understand more as to how this ride would work.
They take pieces of vehicles that can was 200 or more pounds and move them about like it was a piece of paper.
Considering the moves that a robot could do as compared to a traditional coaster.. you would get more movement, faster with a robot than with a coaster.
Again, I'll know more about how it works and what it does when they come in for the demo next month.

I signed up with the Cingular Rollover plan myself. I have yet to have any phone service issues (internet is a different matter) with my phone, coverage or connection.
Between work and home (30 mile drive) I am out in the country most of it and I am getting 4 to 5 bars of signal strength. Really, to start losing coverage I have to keep driving north away from any major populated areas.
I have yet to have any calls drop or any calls so weak I can't be heard or I can't hear.
I am also in the basement of the building I work in and I still have really strong signal strength.
Of all the carriers I checked into, Cingular has the best to offer, and service wise.. has been much better than verizon, AT&T and sprint. (if coworkers can be trusted;))
Just over a year and a half actually. Sept. '88 was the next launch after challenger. Felt like forever though.

Ok, am I the only one that read all that and substituted Will Ferrel in the place of the Architect?

Not the best method, but it works.

Don't have the orignal site url.. but I did save the pics.

I made a small change to their zip form and made a small bit of html code for people to put on their websites.
Get the code here
At least what.. 10 references to that site per day? Better to keep them all in one location to save our sanity ;)
I DL the iso file from where I get up to 1Mb/sec speed. So, I have all I need in just over an hour.
If I were to do as you say from home, it would take almost 2 WEEKS to get SuSe. Since I can only get a 28.8K MAX connection, and it dies a lot.
Not everyone has broadband out the wazzo at home.
sure, I can go buy the CDs.. but I am cheap and I also want it now.
