1. It's been a while. With this new system, it'll be even longer before one is hit.
2. Of course it would be tested frequently.
3. This would be a high-frequency sound wave - they tend to dissipate over a much shorter range than low-frequency waves do, so the only deafness would be caused by whales already stupid enough to be swimming near a massive boat (and that were not already scared away by the screaming noise of the torpedo prop).
The issue, which you do not understand, with low-frequency radar and long-range sonar tests, is that they are so nonlocal that they damage whales in an enormous radius. The high-frequency sonar required to detonate a torpedo would have a very small area of intensity - furthermore, the waves would be directional, so they'd focus on the area of the torpedo and be far less coherent (concentrated) elsewhere.
When asked about the possible ecological effects on marine life the military had no comment.
Oh, right. Because we would *hate* to have a loud noise in the ocean instead of thousands of gallons of fuel oil or a ruptured nuclear reactor from a sunk ship.
Brought to you by the same retards who nixed nuclear power for environmental reasons, forcing the country to depend on burning coal.
Obviously it means 1/10th as many deaths per N usages.
That's obvious? I'd think that it'd be far more obviously 1/10th as many mission failures. Any statistic regarding deaths would vary according to the number of people on the flight, which changes per mission on the Shuttle, thus making your "obvious" conclusion anything but.
...the folks who reviewed Master of Orion III - a game that was so poorly done that you could literally start a new game, then do nothing but hit "End Turn" about 500 times, and win the game...
They gave it 9.2 out of 10, including a subscore of 9.4 for "lasting appeal". Nice work, morons.
Am I the only one who thought the jokes in that article were utterly predictable, thoroughly overused/recycled, and just not all that funny in the first place? Seems very much like the author mailed that one in.
On the other hand, I pay $13/month for an MMO game and I expect to be interact with these game developers routinely.
You can't be serious. Developers are not paid to interact with customers in anything but the tiniest of shops. It's a waste of developer time. Complain about the community liaisons and the intra-company communications at Blizzard all you want, but don't claim that interacting with the developers is anything close to a reasonable expectation.
Don't pretend to be clever when you're not. Obviously it is against the frame of reference in which the firing device exists, in the case of the gun, and against the frame of reference of the sun (or even the frame of reference of the motion of the center of gravity of the solar system, to be a complete pedant), in the case of earth.
I actually *liked* Dungeon Crawl 457... I thought it had a really good plot, and excellent pacing. The bit with the drow elves and the itching powder was brilliant!
Or was that 458...?
The A.Hole bill.

Name a game on any review site with a score less than 5. They're few and far between. So... inflated compared to what, exactly?
Yes, your opinion certainly does constitute "proof". Q.E.Freaking.D.
...sounds just like an insect to me.
The "C word"? Do you mean Cockmaster?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Do *NOT* observe the quantum chips. That totally ruins them.

You grew up around women?!? I've never heard of such a thing. How did that happen?
How the hell do they plan to implement lag and downtime into a card game? This game will be nothing like WoW.

You must be new here...
I was out of town...
You moron.
Who, exactly, thought that things had already gotten as absurd as they could get? Are you... new here?

Mod parent down. Insightful != dumb.
When did NASA hire Yoko Ono?
Great Googly Mooglies! How the heck are we supposed to undercut FreeCiv's price? Tarnation! Business Plan: FOILED!
The jokes didn't even start all that funny, and here we have evidence of downward comic pressure.
My thanks to the mod who posted "overrated" on the parent (Score:1) post that had no other ratings. Gimp.
