    according to this site SETI@home (which is already a distributed system) currently runs at around 15 teraflops, so running it on this machine for a day would only about triple their results for that day.

    Linux supports loadable modules, the kernel does not have to be recompiled to add a module as long as the module is compiled for the same kernel version. This is the same in Windows, drivers written for Win98 don't work on the XP kernel.

    And WinXP is a different kernel than Win3.1, and that WinXP kernel was compiled by someone. So maybe when Microsoft stops having to recompile kernels Linux can too.

    Sounds like the problem is that you are using spreadsheets where you should be using a database.

    Why are their more viruses that target IIS than Apache, when Apache is the leading web server then? Until there is a different leading OS than Windows and it is more frequently the target of attack, your comment is nothing but speculation.

    You are not prevented from running non-gpl code, you simply get a warning that what you are using is non-gpl. This is in no way "management" of your rights, in fact it warns you that you are using code that you do not have the right to modify.

    Even without the codes to decrypt the dvd you could make infinite bit-by-bit copies, the copies would still be encrypted, so they could only play in 'legit' players. If you have the codes you can change the medium, say convert to an unencrypted avi to distribute on the internet. It is a common misconception that dvds could not be copied before decss.

    I'm getting tired of ogg always being the example of a bad name because it doesn't jump out and scream music. I bet if you ask people on the street what an mp3 is you will find a lot of them know. How about ebay and amazon not descriptive but they work. It's all about marketing. Granted descriptive names help the user when they don't have a clue, but then you can just use google or yahoo to get a clue!

    It would be cool if linksys realized there was a market for this and started selling them preinstalled (with the distro in firmware). They would have to work out some of the issues, like auto telnet in as root. Or they could fix the bug that allows this and set up passworded access to install 3rd party software.
