This would be great, but I highly doubt the government will go for something like this. They probably don't even "get it". Kinda like the budget, they don't even know what they are voting on!
I doubt it. From the sounds of it the military are using much more precsise signaling technology then what they lead the public to believe. The other thing is, and this is just my personal observation, but they have the ability to change the results based on some factors. It seems like GPS just keeps putting out a general call, but couldn't it be focused on different locations around the globe?
Or do I just need more sleep?
I think what will really help it along is when broadband becomes the norm and everyone uses video conferencing. I think the visual, or at least audio aspect adds a lot.
Will a SDK be avaiable?

I hope they offer a SDK to developers, and that it would be free, or at least low cost. I meen the more apps that use their robots the more they sell right?
I think this brings up an interesting point related to hackers ethics. On one hand people should know about problems so they fix their machines right away, but if there is no quick fix then perhpas its a thing for a "need to know" basis.
I'm interested to hear if slashdotters think this "hacker" is doing a good thing, or a bad thing.
I have been in this "bind" before when a client wanted to use some biometric solutions. However I could not find any solutions, I found one company that would custom code it for about $20k, but other then that all the drivers, and support was for the windows platform. So because of this I was stuck to devloping a MS solution.
I feel the same way. I think more and more shareware is becoming bigger. In the last year or two it seems like devlopers have taken two routes with shareware. Some try to "lock" down their products and tie registeration keys into the actual hardware used, while on the other hand some people don't worry about it and charge a modest amount for thier work. These are the people that I believe are seeing a payoff for their hardwork.
What if they modulated it to go through space as a laser beam or something? I don't know what they would do, but if they can send sound like this I'm sure they can come up with other ways to "break the laws of physics". Remember when people thought the earth was flat?
Another big advance I think will come with the prodding of the DARPA's $1million contest. A lot of disccusion has been going on their message boards about computer vision systems.
I have two comments, first on a larger scale we need to explore other planets and colonize them. Its really that simple. There may or may not be aliens that could attack us here, but there are other problems, like the Sun now becoming hotter, and a possible astroid. Much like data centers, we need redundancy!
My other comment is that people still need to be concerned about the environment, not just about global warming, but also with all of the other problems that our polution has caused.
It seems like all great inventers have started as being considered a "crack pot" Now I wonder how this will be used. It seems like something that is too powerful to exist. Kinda like the cartoons where they use a device to control every one in the world. If this is connected to a set of satalites and beamed down very loud music or just a shrill note, somebody could become very powerful, very fast.
Thats too bad that a few had to ruin it for everyone else. Giving out software like that is a privage, not your God given right. People should respect Apple's wishes and wait until the full release, but no.
Now its too late.
I guess Microsoft just doesn't learn. Most companies would admit it the first time around and not do it again. MS though just keeps hitting the head for more.
May I ask what you are going to be typing on this thing?
You said "No wireless keyboards unless they encrypt!"
Most wireless keybords have less then 30 feet of range.
You don't work for the government do you? If so then you probably have many other security concerns to worry about also
Perhaps if people that called me were charged instead of me having to foot their bill.
I would go for a setup where telemarketers could call me all they want. I would listen to them for 5min and then my phone bill would be credited $10!
Built in microwaves, sounds interesting. When I look at something it becomes toast warm and good to eat. Then again it could probably do more damage then poking somebodies eyes out.
I completly aggree. Liquid is frowned upon inside server rooms, I could not see pumping gallons of coolent through millions of dollars worth of equipment. Also you can easily add more air movement, but upgrading a pump system is much harder and requires a complete overhual. N+1 redudancy would be just about impossible also.
I think I'm the only one on the whole planet that is not too excited over combing TV and computers. I think they are different and serve different purposes, and should stay different! I'm not a big TV person though and if I miss a show, OH WELL! Does anyone think the same way?
I was against this before, but now its too late for that talk. I just hope they hit them hard, hit them fast and get Saddam out of there so we can come back home with as few killed as possible.
Pray for the troops
I think voice chat will prove very successful with gaming. Not just for yelling insults, but for complex strategy games where teamwork is required to win. For instance multiplayer games like Castle Wolfenstien and CS can really use this type of technology. Now if only the game consoles can play against computers too.....

This is a sad but true fact in our society today. I think a step in the right direction is the capping of medical malpractice, but its only a start.

Actually I wasn't, but if I had thought about it before I would have :-) Especially those macs.....

Thats what, a margin of error of 16,000%?
My question is how many are there going to be? When you have a great movie, topping it with sequal after sequal is very hard.

Yes I know, but there are still many questions. What happens if the dry switch fails?
