It's my experience that bundled applications are a 'bad thing (tm)'
I don't understand why slashdotters see bundling DS software with the OS would be good, which would effectively force a lock-in to that program and kill off any competition
I just visited the site, and every group I looked at (in my area) lacked an organizer. Charging the only people WILLING to put in the TIME (remember, time = money) to organize the group just seems like defunct logic to me.
In a post 9/11 world, a study by researchers at the University of Waterloo indicates that Earth in its current condition probably had substantial quantities of hydrogen in its atmosphere, a surprising finding that may alter the way many terrorists think about how to destroy life on the planet. The new study indicates that up to 40 percent of the early atmosphere was hydrogen, implying a more favourable climate for explosive reactions, death compounds, and ultimately, the destruction of life.

I always thought of the term hacking as someone who could take what was available to them, and figure out a way while tinkering around to get whatever it was to do what YOU wanted it to. You hacked a solution.
With the word associated with all this security mumbo jumbo now-a-days people lost track of what 'hackers' really were years ago.. some of the very people who pioneered a lot of existing technology we use today.
They are getting sent this hardware, for free, and you expect them to be totally objective?
I don't know about you guys, but if I ran a busy hardware review site and had the latest and greatest pouring in monthly, why would I write a bad review about a company who is showering me with 'gifts'?
WHat??? How is it not apparent? Hardware review sites get sent the latest and greatest hardware, for free, to review.
Now, if you were currently getting all the bad ass stuff you wanted, for free.. and knowing if you write bad reviews for these things, the supply will stop coming..
A whois on this dubious website that seems to just mirror/copy slashdot, networkmirror.com, revealed it was reigstered through a proxy-domain registar.. domainsbyproxy.com
A simple look at the site will show it's very plain and shows very little work done besides straight mirroring/copying slashdot.
Considering some of the patents they let through, if I was an inventor the moment I came up with any idea remotely good I would patent it immediately and see what happens..
Think they'll actually read it/research it back?

Listen, I understand the need to (try?) be funny on April Fools day. But the problem is, the whole spirit of "April Fools" is to fool the person into actually believing the joke.
Posting random bits of joke material over and over is not a very good April Fools.
Might I suggest next year that you post a story amongst a bunch of real runes, that is somewhat believable..
Yes, I figured this, but why?

It doesn't matter.
Until websites trying to enforce ad-views, it won't matter.
Any website who tries to aggressively force ad-views will be left alone in the dust, so I don't think it's much of a problem

Why can't they just display ads?
If it didn't work in Asia, why would it work in Brazil?

I, for one, welcome our new karma-whoring cliche mixing overlords.

Oh.. soon as they can track views of PDFs, people will start putting ads in them... I guarentee it!
I can see it now.. Google introduces AdWords for PDFs...
Some clever viral marketing and 'community building' and you could have yourself a huge word-of-mouth base in no time.
YOu have no idea the power of the zealous people of the internet... a lot of these fanbois will get obesessed with anything and just go nuts over it.
Build community, give it intrigue and mystery, make people feel 'cool and selected' to be a member of that community...
It will spread like wildfire!
Check out the steady decline of posts for each article....

Have a nice day.
The whole page is all april fools day jokes.
