Obviously, this is just more security through obscurity BS; we all know that it doesn't work. Simple counter-example: Does anyone remember how long it took them to patch that URL spoofing problem? I certainly think that it was a problem before they patched it.
Yeah, I suppose it could also be part of their large FUD campaign against LINUX since they insist that closed-source is more secure.</rant>
Perhaps they will program future versions of LINUX to refuse to interoperate on the network with more computers than they are 'licensed' to like Windows NT.
Personally, I think that one of the most chilling police states in movies is in the movie "The 5th Element." For those of you who haven't seen it, there is actually a station in our hero's own apartment where he is required by law to go to and bend over, placing his hands on the wall while the police enter his place and arrest him.
Does having an "arresting station" in one's own dwelling-place not sound a bit more chilling that eye-scanning?
Crack that code, you crack-smoking dirty rotten intellectual property thieves. Oh, and by the way, am I the only one who thinks that musicians are already applying this obfuscation to their music for the RIAA?
I was going to moderate in this discussion, but I've decided now that I've just gotta post.
I really can't believe how the FBI is shamelessly whoreing for the xxAA. I can't believe that the FBI is parroting the RIAA bullshit about XXX billion dollars lost every year. I actually went back and checked that this is really their web page. Words do not do them justice, just look at www.fbi.gov.
Pay no attention to the domain; this transcript is widely available if you just do a Google search. The scoop is, back in 1975, environmental scientists were playing chicken llittle telling us that the world was threatened by global cooling. We're still here, aren't we? Now we're all going to die because of global warming.
I heard a funny story. They said that there was a campaign manager who called people, purporting to be doing a pre-election survey. If the person said that they planned to vote for his candidate, he would say something along the lines of, "Well thanks for your input. Be sure to get out and vote tomorrow."
Otherwise, he would say, "Well thanks for your input. Be sure to get out and vote day after tomorrow!"

I realize that this is a bit offtopic, but I'm going to ask this here. The parent post referred to trantric techniques. Anyways, if the poster is a tantra practitioner, I would be interested in a reference to a good source on the practice and benefits of tantra.
My first permanent installation was Red Hat 6.1. Recently, having tinkered with it until it broke, and not having the install CDs on hand, I went out and got SuSE. For some reason, it was reaaaaallly slow for the first few weeks I had it, and then for some reason, it began to perform normally. I notice that SuSE has a lot more polish than Red Hat does, not to mention SuSE isn't ditching desktop Linux.
Knoppix is a great CD to have around; it's an excellent technical diagnostic tool.
Well, that was about four or five years ago. Perhaps the business has changed since then; at the time, my family was in the business and I was aware that they shipped some sort of hardware that had to be installed in the machine. I was told there was a BIG deposit to ensure that they got the old hardware back.

Does anyone on Slashdot frequent video arcades? I think the height of rushing unfinished games out the door was when they released the Mortal Kombat 4 ARCADE game. For those of you who are not familiar, Mortal Kombat 4 shipped without all the fighters in the game. They actually patched the game by sending out new circuit boards.
Imagine that! Not only do we have to download patches from the internet. They actually had the balls to tell operators to install new circuitboards so they could rush something out the door.
As my luck would have it, I have an AMD 2600+ chip and 256 MB video ram. UT2k2 runs slow as mollasses (spelling?) on my machine. I gave up getting a good UT2k3 fix ages ago.:( It pisses me off that I got that ****ing game TWO CHRISTMASES ago and I buy new hardware and it still plays like crap. Hope I have better luck when I try out the new demo tonight.

I still can't get over them taking goatse off of the domain registry. Do you think they have a program that will allow me to relive the trauma?

Congratulations! Thats the most insightful thing I've heard all day. It's definately more interesting than anything in the linked article.

Did you mean the mark of the beast? It's Armageddon!!!

It was originally named the Department of War.
It would be difficult for anything to survive of the *surface* of Mars because of solar radiation.
Forget paintballing, try rock climbing!! That'll give you a better idea what you're made of than paintballs, and you can get just as many bruises!

As far back as 6.1, Red Hat has had both KDE and GNOME available for installation. The new SuSE 9 also has both.
