Gee. Between a Linux kernel mirror being compromised, a GNU Foundation server being compromised, Debian servers being rooted with a Linux kernel exploit, and now a Gentoo server being compromised, if I wasn't convinced that Linux is more secure than Microsoft, I sure am now!
I now await the Linux apologists and zealots to explain it all away.
For years, Mac zealots have been proclaiming how great Apple is. I figured with the introduction of the iPod and iTunes for Windows, this would be a nice opportunity to get a feel for Apple and get my toe in the water so to speak to decide on whether I should buy a Macintosh or not.
Well, the first edition of iTunes for Windows kept crashing my Windows 2000 machine on boot-up. And now apparently, iTunes for Windows breaks iPods, as people with recently released 30 gigabyte iPods are complaining of the same problem, not just those with older iPods.
Nice going, Apple! There's a sure-fire way to convert Windows users. I think I'll stick with Intel and Windows, thanks.
Mandrake is a French made and based distribution. What the hell did y'all expect? The French are infamous for doing things half-assed and hope the rest of the world doesn't notice. If you want a well made OS, look to America.
This is only the latest example that shows that France, and indeed most of Europe in general, is severely out of touch with reality and is xenophobic. From the war in Iraq, to the renaming of e-mail, and now this... France thinks they can hold the world hostage. It's time to show them that they really don't matter in the world stage.

I was offered that procedure. I said, "Hell no." It would have taken me out of commission from life for about a year to a year and a half, as I would have had to learn how to walk all over again. Being short can be a pain in the ass every now and then, but there are more important things in life.
Not really. Short men earn even less than short women on average. I.e., I'm male, and 4'10". The same 4'10" woman would earn slightly more. Short men are a stigma in society, and because of that earn less.

They do. When I was six years old, I was put on human growth hormone, injected into my body every other day. It was actual growth hormone taken out of average human beings, and injected in those who needed it, like moi. However, it was discovered that some disease or another was being passed around through the human growth hormone - several people that were taking the injections for years died - and a federal judge ordered it to be stopped after I had taken it for about two years. By the time synthetic growth hormone was developed and "proven" to be "relatively" safe, it was too late. Most of my body's bones had already closed due to the onset of puberty, and I became 4'10" for the rest of my life. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you.
Nothing new. Personally, I'm male, and 4'10". Just like everything else, there are disadvantages and advantages in life. Sure, being short throughout growing up was a bitch, but I came to accept it. If others have a problem with it, it is their problem.
Honestly, everyone has advantages and disadvantages. Just my disadvantage happens to be more physically apparent than most.
I'm 26 years-old, have a bachelor's degree from college, have family and friends, and enjoy my work. I honestly couldn't ask for anything more.
An insightful opinion piece by CK Rairden, which can be found here, makes an important point. Howard Dean is loved by the most far-left winged Democrats, who would do anything to see Bush out of office. However, it is exactly this attitude that would guarantee failure for the Democrat Party should Howard Dean win the party's nomination, as it would ensure a second Bush term as President.
"I want to make a new rule:
Once a Science Fiction Concept is used in an Arnold Schwartzenegger movie, it's no longer cool."
I wouldn't say that. Three breasted women are still quite cool, if I say so myself.
My question would be, "What the Hell were y'all smoking when you made the decision to rename the non-enterprise Red Hat Linux to Fedora Linux, and could you pass some of that stuff along? Thanks!"
Wait a minute... I thought all Final Fantasy releases were movies. You mean to tell me they were games? Huh. Weird. I was wondering why Final Fantasy X required a game controller...
I'm not much into video games, so I may be completely off the mark here... but isn't lowering a console's price point below $100 a death knell? The only two recent consoles that have gone that low are the PS One and the Dreamcast. PS One had a replacement already (the PS 2), before it reached the $99 point, but we all know how the Dreamcast turned out...
"Linux WAS, IS, and MUST REMAIN Free! Free as of spirit and Free as of beer!"
... And that attitude and/or belief is exactly why Linux will ultimately fail.
Like it or not, people need money to survive. Free spirit is one thing, but keeping something entirely free as in beer will ultimately kill it as the people behind it will have nothing to support their continued existence.
I dislike Microsoft as much as the next guy, but I realize that if I want viable alternatives, I have, or at least should, pay for them to show my support and to put food in the developers' mouths. That's why I buy every new version of Libranet Linux, and that's why I have a subscription to FreeBSD releases on CD via the FreeBSD Mall.
People just don't seem to get it. Whatever you may think, people are not entitled to music. Never have been. You are entitled to life, liberty, housing, food, water, and clothes, and right to legally acquire property. Nothing more, nothing less. Nowhere is it written in any constitution nor holy book that every citizen is entitled to music.
In the Middle Ages, bards would be sponsored by royalty, or they'd travel the land and get food and shelter in exchange for the bard's lore and song. Anyone who tried to get a bard to sing for nothing would most likely be laughed at. Times have changed, but basic concepts have not.
I'd much rather see a revival of the "Babylon 5" spin-off "Crusade," than I would "Firefly." "Crusade" had the elements of a great science fiction television series, but much like how Fox screwed over "Firefly," TNT screwed over "Crusade."
It was fun to watch Mr. Brady command a powerful starship while it lasted...
This story is a dupe.

Unborn fetuses? Don't you mean unborn human children?

Aha! This explains Richard Simmons. I knew he shouldn't be catagorized as "human." Life-alike would work though.

This was perhaps the most insightful posting on Slashdot, or anywhere else for that matter, that I've ever read. Thank you.
