You had left off the parts where Sony will review all games as a 10 out of 10 by fake critics, bundle DRM so prohibitive that you can only play your $50 BD-Rom movies on days that end with 'r', and that game rentals will be a thing of the past thanks to digital distribution. And having to fill out the rebate forms. Then paying to stamp and send them all this information. The last two rebates I've sent in for took over 8 weeks to be returned. And both used a 3rd party web company where I could track my status. Both times the status showed rejected because of "multiple offers from the same address." Which wasn't true. This peaks my suspicions, and though I havn't been shorted my due monies, it leaves me siding with the people who call scam.

I'm sure there are better battles to fight, but only this one has the promise of a large monetary payoff. I would also like to see their justifying this case by exactly how many EU businesses were affected by MS bundling a media player with the OS.

  13. Sony getting lucky at launch on How the PS3 Hit $600 · · Score: 1

For reasons that you've stated, I whole heartedly feel that Sony will have a successful launch purely because of their fanatical customer base. There are people willing to pay $999 for a CPU in their computer, and there are people willing to pay $600+ for a GPU. Why wouldn't Sony find a few million customers willing to shell out for the next version of their hardware? There is a market of consumers paying extra to watch TV shows in high definition. They want to see their movies in HD as well. To these people, the system is worth it, even if the price of games is increased. Where I expect the market to cool for Sony is 3 months after launch, after the fanatical customers have taken the systems home. After the excitement is gone, and when the realism sets in. Where prices start to matter. And people take things into account such as the idea that it doesn't offer better games, only better looking.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to replace your current DVD library with a Blu-Ray format for nearly twice the cost. Then replace the Blu-Ray with HD-DVD in 2008 if Blu-Ray fails like Beta did. And then replace both of those with direct-download services in 2009. 19. Re:reality check? -- how do you consumers think? on Why Sony is Ready to Self Destruct · · Score: 1

$600 for a game console is appalling. I've even gamble that you do not get a game packaged into that price either. Nor shall you take a Blu-Ray movie in exchange for your hard earned money. And I have strong suspicions that you will unfortunately have to pay extra to bring a friend along with the cost of additional controllers. For the Cadillac model of game console systems, the offer seems shockingly thin.

Your comparison to a $400 cell phone is interesting. Especially when I considered that several years ago I had happily purchased two phones for $600. My justification was that the phones could be used for emergency (and have been) and the service that I selected made them more affordable than the "freebie" phones that came with a restrictive contract. I could mention that my phones do not require an HD Monitor to the tune of $700 HDTV to view who's calling.

PS3's media capabilities are intriguing. I have heard rumors which mention Cell's power to run hundreds of HD movies simultaneously. Talk about information overload! Yet, I wonder the cost of hundreds of tuners or the array of hard drives required to feed each of those signals.

I also would be interested in Linux running on the PS3. But I dare to ask which individual has such time and talent for taking on IBM's Octopiler.

Certainly this "game console" has plenty to offer. And it could be spectacular either as a flop or a success.

Many of you think this is a Camera feature. But I read this as a screen cap feature. The tiny sensor's could detect a pixel on-screen and save those pixels to a single large image. Some (Blu-RAY / HD DVD) devices or applications may not allow direct capture of their images or at least are harder than others to capture. I think this might be useful in saving those moments while bypassing the use restrictions.

Encoding MP3's would mean that I have a CD in the drive, which means that I loaded the game first because of the disk key-lock anti-use crap that distributer's install on the games, and that I removed the game disk and launched some CD encoder software then inserted a music CD. I'm not likely to ALT+TAB to the desktop with some 3D game running! Especially now that games take 500+ megs of RAM to swap out. If I did, something impatient thing in the game is likely to snuff me at that very moment. And I fire my virus scans off while I'm asleep to make sure that they're not disturbing me while I play a game.

It's wonderful to have a dual-core CPU, but the marketing is all wrong. And gamers know that! I agree with you Kannibal Klown, keep the I/O for the game! Say "no thanks" to MP3's or Virus scans!
