Right on! I feel exactly the same way. Unfortunately, Microsoft does the same thing. If you remove WMP, most Microsoft games released in the past few years will fail to play video/cinematics, and sometimes audio.:P
And stick with half baked demos or unrealistic system requirements on the box? No thank you, I will continue to pirate to gauge real performance on a real machine. I'm going to continue to buy games but I am not going to get stuck in the 6 month upgrade cycle. Download everything, buy what you want to play.
Yeah, but they usually work. Have you ever had a flu? I'd rather a prick on the arm and a bit of nausea for a day and spend 30 dollars, even if it wasn't 100% likely to stop the flu.
Download any Linux distribution and get thousands of dollars worth of software for free, throw a party and hand out copies so your friends get thousands of dollars worth of software too. $300 only if someone willing to pay that.
LoB

I agree the copy of Windows was well worth the little sign up and 10 invites. And the playing cards will come in handy for drinking games... Though I was disappointed with the poster. Everything else had the design of a corporate acid trip, yet the poster was just a handful of backgrounds.
Oh I don't know instead of worrying about the traction of said solar shingles, why not just purchase some special purpose shoes? Certainly steps toward off the grid energy independence far surpasses concerns of roof traction.
I don't think Apple has it out for Woolworth's and I don't think Woolworth's meant to make a logo that's similar to Apple's. I see the similar shape but no one would ever mistake the two. This is really just reflexive litigation where the party that potentially faces dilution issues just wants to get the issue in front of a judge for some ass covering.
Ahhh the efficiency of the free market at it's finest!
Nope, and neither will consumers if advertisers can get something like this going under the radar. They'll just get used to it, like so many other things.
That may be the case but in the end we'll more than likely see corporate drama surrounding that effort as well. I hate to say it but I think a DirectX option is the lesser of three evils.
I'd like to know why he was in prison if he was so benevolent to the FBI and so harmful to the evil-doers in his company.
He didn't come clean right away with the feds, and when he did he put their entire multi year investigation at stake since he would of been the lone witness as to the date/time and people in the recordings. He also starting going a little crazy when his lawyer suggested he take a 2 year plea bargain. Started thinking everyone was out to get him, and he leveled some pretty wild accusations against one of the feds he workedc closely with during the investigation.
In the end they got one of the Japanese guys to be their witness for the tapes IIRC.
I have nothing against SW: Galaxies, but I'm glad to see it failing. If only because Sony owns it.
I hope anything and everything that Sony touches fails miserably. They deserve it.
I disagree.
When I was a kid I enjoyed my Walkman, the Trinitron was great albeit a bit heavy. And EverQuest was quite spectacular for it's time.
Not only could this replace revenue lost from decreased gasoline consumption this wwould allow us to have variable tax rates on various roads. Higher congestion could lead to higher taxes encouraging people to car pool, use mass transit, etc.
I spent thousands of hours over a decade and a half trying to code MMORPGS. Now that MMORPGS are out and boring, my ultimate dreams for video games is sorta deflated.
I agree with you, I've often thought my enjoyment of my hours on EQ had more to do with my desire to have such a game then actual merit. But it occurs to me the potential for a truly engaging and wonderful MMORPG could still be realized as %99.99 of what is out there is all derived from the same basic formula.

K-Lite Codec Pack
Just don't pirate.

that our ~75% tax rate is funding the worthwhile entitlement of blazing 1Mb/s connection!!
In Finland Taxation of an individual's income is progressive. In other words, the higher the income, the higher the rate of tax payable. In 2009 the income tax rate (national tax) for an individual is between 7%-30.5%. In addition to direct taxation there is also municipal tax in Finland. This tax is payable by an individual on his or her income and it fluctuates between 16% - 21% depending on the municipal authority.

These companies are using this bandwidth to provide the services we need. Ever heard of a Cell phone?
I disagree with the fact "we need" cell phone service.
The point about walking on roofs is a key issue.

Greedy maybe, but incomprehensible?
Yes I would say requiring a specific brand of video card for a stand alone PPU to function is quite incomprehensible.
At this point why even bother releasing a 32bit installer at all?
I'd certainly buy a $20 device that meant I never had to change a smoke alarm or clock battery again.
What happens when the power goes out? Does the $20 dollar device have a battery?
Do you think the Marketers give a rats ass?
Nope, and neither will consumers if advertisers can get something like this going under the radar. They'll just get used to it, like so many other things.
Havok is a better engine anyway.
That may be the case but in the end we'll more than likely see corporate drama surrounding that effort as well.

Since it's not really free, I'd rather have some monetary compensation if I were to participate in the program.

Why? If the video and audio are compressed already, are you really gaining much by trying to compress them again?
Perhaps he's using the zip/rar as a simple container file.
More like Horatio Sanz.
It's WM_PAINT all over again.
I'm tired and going to bed but a quick Google netted patent 5822523. http://www.google.com/patents?vid=USPAT5822523
My first thought was this is great anything to force innovation. Something more then the same old, same old in MMO gaming.
But then again sounds a bit broad, as do many a patent these days.

there was no official way to buy music legal
Except of course, buying the physical CD and ripping it.
