They haven't patched it yet...big freaking deal. None of the people who'd get sucked into this exploit are ever gonna patch their computers anyway. Come on.
Somewhere at the bottom it says something about "firste posthethe" and an arcane mention of something called "yegoate.intercour.se" Predating slashdot standards yet again, Chauncer gave this to his son then 4 hours later gave it to him again.
"yes, we searched his entire apartment and couldn't find anything but a wireless router...but we know he's sharing mp3s somehow. Kept thumbing his collar....weird kid."
One of the favorite tricks of domain squatters? Register, say, slashfot.org and have it point to a pron site or something. Regardless of how technologically advanced the internet ever gets, it'll still be used by humans, who are great at screwing things up.
that Bill Gates has done more for the world than, say, Mick Jagger or Elton John. He runs both an incredibly successful company and gives away gobs of money to charities.
Microsoft is obviously doing this just to hook the third world. Its not like they, nor Bill Gates have ever made any charitable donations before, right?
Maybe one day slashdot will get rid of Michael and will slowly become a respectable news source again.
First the RIAA sues a 13 year old girl, now the MPAA is going to throw a 70 year old in jail.
Maybe their next target could be a couple of nuns or some orphans. The tactics they're using in their anti-piracy campaign isn't exactly endearing them to the public.
I worked for Toshiba before they sold all their US assets, so I got to work in a clean room in the SDRAM manufacturing facility...wearing the full giant condom suit, surgical gloves, face mask, etc. Trying to lug around pcs, run cables, and replace network cards wearing all that crap was a treat.
but it takes a lot of guts (I'll refrain from saying a big set of balls from all the jokes that would lead to) to do that. Especially given the leadership role he has in the open source world. I don't think you'd find many CEO's of major companies willing to humiliate themselves in that way for charity.
doesn't that annoying little windows update tool that lives in the systray and pester the crap out of you work outside of the browser? How windows update is accessed is a moot point anyway given that your average user never uses it.
So the user can install a different browser on their own but have to rely on the "shop for music online" button? I don't know where this "feature" is, but is this something that redirects people to one of Microsoft's sites that's designed to work with IE? If so, I'd hijack the link as well.
I second that. Many people tout Linux's security, but many of the distros allow you to choose to not have a root password during install and they have ssh on by default.
Your security is only as good as your latest patches. People believe that linux security is better, but you have a much higher user knowledge level on your average linux box than your average windows box.
Are they going into total 3D ala Pixar, or are they just moving all of their animation over to digital? I recall reading that they were going to be phasing out hand-drawn stuff and going over to pure digital animation, but in a lot of cases (ie the Simpsons) this isn't a bad thing. I had thought that is was Pixar who was pushing Disney to go all digital.
All things being said and done, the move over to digital animation shouldn't be a bad thing.
I agree the parent post is a bit over-reactive, but Evangelion is definately _not_ a cartoon for kids. Unless you think kids should watch depressathons about suicide, human-strife, etc. So...looks like you're the idiot.
...back when it was Corel Linux and free. I used 1.0 and didn't see that they'd bothered to change anything aside from updating some of the packages. Version 2 doesn't look like they've made any more major changes. I may as well just install my old ass copy of Corel Linux and run apt-get update on it.
I'm glad that mandrake is able to make a bit of a profit while still providing a free download edition; without going the redhat way of dropping the home user line entirely. Hopefully other linux companies will see that the Redhat way is not the only way to profitability.

Seriously, you could cut down on pushing that shit and we wouldn't mind. Like reading the same story every other day is worth XX amount of money per month.
I thought being a nerd was cool in the 90's when every news story was about how much money computer nerds made, then all the trendy people caught on and flooded the industry with idiots. Then the dot com bubble burst and being a nerd was uncool again. So now we're back to cool?
But I don't think Lindows has all that much of a brand awareness with consumers anyway. Its not like the huddled masses are going to be picking up their $150 Wal-Mart PC and be distraught that it has "$name-OS" on it as opposed to "Lindows."

I'm sure this is the kind of front page stuff that BBC and Reuters would be reporting.
"This just in...spammers are apparently using pron sites to help decrypt captchas."
Some nuts will find a conspiracy in everything.

Hated? Yes. Undeserving? No.
Novell pulled SUSE out of it already. Was that due to SCO or did they just not want to be part of it anymore?

That should explain it all

which is where Iraq's scary SCUD missles all came from Umm, SCUD missiles are modified Soviet weapons. Please get a clue before spouting off crap.
