  1. You currently are on the bottom of the battery safety ladder. No one is going to listen to you now.

Yes, I know you think you've developed an industry-leading battery safety design and procedures, but maybe give it a little time and wait til you are closer to the top of the ladder before asking other companies to join in, and maybe you'll get a better response.

  2. What's next? on 'Headphone Jacks Are the New Floppy Drives' (daringfireball.net) · · Score: 1

Some people don't care about Apple force-retiring certain things that personally don't affect them - 3.5" floppies, etc, and trot out the tired "oh well, that's progress for you." But there's a right and wrong way to do things like this. The alternatives to the audio jack stink.

What if iOS 11 deprecated phone calls? "Phone calls are a legacy feature with too much reliance on the cell phone companies. With our new and improved FaceTime and iMessage apps, you can more quickly communicate. Yes, these apps only works with other iOS devices, why do you ask?" Would these people care then? Or if Apple suddenly did away with the hardware mute toggle, since you can do the same thing (but much less conveniently) via software?

    Karma be damned...

Near my house is a section of roadway (a divided 4-lane) where the limit inexplicably drops from 55mph to 35mph for a half mile. Mind you, there are no curves, intersecting roads or any other "dangers." Guess where the cops set up to bust "speeders"?

There are those who simply don't happily comply with arbitrary rules when there is no logical reason for the rule, and I'm one of those people. If I'm rolling to a stop sign and can clearly see no oncoming cars (or the police), I'm going to roll right through. Why should I come to a stop? Because I feel like I'm doing my part to conform? Because I'm being told to do so? Because I'm only capable of checking for oncoming traffic at 0mph, rather than 3? I'm sure if the limit went from 55mph to 15 for no reason, there is a segment of the population who will gladly slow down to 15 with a smile on their face, simply because they are commanded to do so. Others, who prefer to think for themselves, check for cops and keep going.

Needless to say, speed traps have nothing to do with safety and everything to do with income.

Well, they did, leaving me with a credit balance - which of course takes weeks to process. How hard would it be to check the balance right before processing the auto-pay to verify if there's still a balance on the account? This is assuming they're not doing it on purpose...

As long as experiments and observations agree with that theory, we keep it around. When they don't, we come up with a new, better theory that does. Do we know everything? Of course not - that's ridiculous to even consider. Do we have a better understanding of the universe now than 1000 years ago?
