The Insight is about 20k, and yea, who cares now. my dad bought one in the 01 model year, and it was fun then, now i see a prius every time i go out. the novelty wore off long ago.
Anyway, the real question now is how long will they last? the car companies have pretty much nailed making the 4 stroke engine, but the hybrid powertrain is still very new. Most hybrids out there are less than 5 years old, so we don't know what happens to these battery/powertrain once they start againg.
I already do! Richard K. Lee says he has viagra for me at half off Steven at the car dealership has special financing for me Troy fowarded me this email about how i can get a rolex for only 245.99 and tonya crowder says "look here" but theres noting to see.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not one that advocates that *all safety features* be removed from cars. I simply prefer to drive a vehicle not equiped with them. Personally, there have been times when I've driven in the snow and I've thought "I wish I had TCS/ABS, or even an LSD."
But for the most part, 99% of my driving takes place on dry pavement, with the occasional rain/sprinkler overspray. I enjoy being in full control of the vehicle at all times. It's why I drive a manual tranny and not a slushbox. I also enjoy being able to lock the wheels on demand, and not having ABS kicking in to ruin my fun.
Now, why ABS can really screw things up for the general public. Alot of "near hits" when the person is able to smack the pedal, ABS kicks in and they are able to stear around the obstacle.
However, they think "oh my god i made it around the obstacle" and they don't realize they're driving on the shoulder, or even worse off the road and headed toward a cliff or something.
So in such a situation, it *may* be actually better to hit the obstacle instead of flying off a cliff. But the best solution to this problem is to educate everyone on how to handle a vehicle, not just the basics of road manerisms.
Yea, something they dont tell you as the pitfall of ABS.
one point about hydrogen extracting hydrogen from natural gas.
The byproduct of this is CO2, thus hydrogen power derived from natural gas has the same pitfall of just burning hydrocarbons, except you're driving a hydrogen vehicle
I think you're being a little optimistic. Geo sure made a 3 cyl contraption that got 50 mpg. Dumpting the alternator for a solar pannel on the roof would probably yield at most a 1-2 mpg increase. Not to mention that you'll have added weight on the roof (which would negatively affect how the car handles b/c weight is up high), and the high cost of solar pannels vs a parts bin alternator.
For the ultimate in mileage...5 years ago, Honda came out with a car that got 60-70 MPG (my dad bought one, and his lifetime avg over 28k is 58 mpg) The Insight was able to get nearly 50% more highway mileage than geo could b/c it utilized a 3 cyl engine that was capable of operating at non-stochimetric ratios (normally cars aim for ~14.7 fuel:1 air, while the Insight can lean out to 21:1)
As for having a backup fuel source, i'd say it would be very beneficial. Motorcycles have a fuel petcock, which stores a little extra fuel b/c they typically don't have gas gauges. Cars don't need this because drivers are costantally looking at the instrument cluster, and would know when the tank is low.
if you thought OBDII was bad...OBDIII is supposed to have wireless capabilities. So our caring government can just ask the engine computer what the heak you have been doing.
But for remote linking, a sat ISP is probably much better than HAM because HAM is regarded as a common medium. As a result, you have to "play nicely", and can't transmit questionable material over the airwaves. Lastly, in the US anyway...i don't know about operation procedures in foreign lands, but you can't conduct business transactions (like sell stuff) over HAM radio. You can however call for a tow truck if you're stranded in the middle of nowhere tho.
no idea what you're talking about...but I think you're bordering on parinoia anyway.
Well, to humor you, I'll suggest this. -Use a coffee filter. (may be restrictive) -go to an auto parts store, buy an engine intake filter and cut that up. try the foam filters. (hey, an engine really sucks air...so should flow fairly well. -central heat filters used in houses(should flow ok too) -call antec for a replacement filter
It's not that bad.

Do the computers communicate? else you're really screwed. I'll stick to my traditional brake system (no ABS/stability control/brake assist, etc)
Yea, i know. But all the cute girls are members tho...sadly.
But you do need AOL for it's high quality IM client!
but its a video right? Be careful! the XXAA might be watching!

Nah, he'd just put the xbox into the 360 box and return it. Think of it as a free upgrade!

Correction: There is ONE OS that can prevent you from gaining physical access to the machine. This os is HAL.

tried it before, and either way, it tops out at 120 mph...damn you governor!
Heh, similar to the reason my dad bought an Insight.
at 60-70 mpg (life avg 58 mpg, mostly city), the car nearly "paid for it's own insurance in gas savings"

Anyone get the feeling we're becoming more and more of a police state?
oh good, now all you need to do is to setup a bungee cord and have someone jump off, grab a few oxygen tanks and return to base.

When the data is lost, i'm sure iTunes and Visa will be there. And the RIAA will know what to do (take your money again)
You can also do ham radio over IP too!

No big, bright billboards by highways either- because they are a distraction to drivers.
BBspot had an article on this long ago

In Calif, tracking is public info. Listed with home address and offense. take a look at meganslaw.ca.gov
And NO, Mr. Jackson isn't listed *yet*

So where do you draw the line between tipping an officer for doing you a "favor" and bribing him to do you a "favor"?
