On a purely selfish note, I'd prefer that Elon give the Roadster to ME. (He could have my beloved little Mitsu Eclipse in exchange if he insisted.)
Still, there's something fascinating about the thought of that little red Roadster, tucked neatly into a cargo container of some sort on the top of all that howling blazing power... and "Space Oddity" blasting away in orbit. Although there'd be no one to hear it, presumably. And no air to carry the sound.
And the thought that, someday, someone will bring it back again. The ultimate "garage find":-)
A lot of people (Gates included, usually matching Rotary International's efforts) have been working long and hard to make the same thing happen with polio. We may see the end of THAT crippling disease Real Soon now.
More on topic, the CART effort has been trying to push and fund research into Alzheimer's and dementia research for years now:
Yeah, throwing money at stuff doesn't always work, there's gonna be waste, there's gonna be fraud... but guaranteed, NOT throwing money at it won't get anything done either.
I developed a CW (Morse Code) send-and-receive training system for the US Army Special Forces Radio School in '84 using networked (!) C-64's and standard issue CW keys, a networked hard drive, and amber monitors. Worked wonderfully well, the Army got a hell of a deal (it was my first work as an independent programmer, a "proof of me" sort of thing). Commodore BASIC, 6502 assembly language, great stuff! The little C-64's held up just fine... except for the sound chip:-( The constant barrage of CW tones (all one frequency, pretty much) would burn them out after a month or two and the school had to find a local guy to replace that particular chip on the motherboard. Other than that, no issues whatsoever, with the C-64's or the Canadian-made network card that plugged into them.
Does anyone else remember the game "Sharks and Fish", source came out in Byte Magazine I think back in the 80's. Very interesting, and turns out it replicates the ebb and flow of the populations of lynx and rabbits as tracked by Canadian Fur Company trapping statistics back in the 1700's:-)
Much more interesting than Conway's Life, I always thought. I hacked it, of course, to add plankton, whales, porpoises, and things got quite interesting then:-)
I see in the national news last night (Friday) that the Cuban Premier honestly admitted they don't know what's going on. And they invited the FBI to send down teams to investigated (although no idea if the FBI teams are still there). AND they invited the US State Department to join them in a bilateral investigation. Which invitation, naturally, the State Department didn't even bother responding to.
Sure sounds like they're innocent. Unless there's some rogue agency doing this, of course. The Cubans have never been slouches with secret service, KGB equivalents, etc.
Isn't a lack of courage to blindly accept that $199.95 retail price either. I see them all over the place online from $89 to $109. Still outrageous markups, but still...
Put the seats, the drink trays, or maybe even the whole passenger compartment (or sections thereof) on a pivot so "down" turns to match acceleration. Presto: no spilt drinks.
Let me make myself clear: I am NOT, repeat, NOT, a supporter of such foolishness. But since you all haven't gotten around to making me Imperator yet [hint], there actually might be a USE for such an error code... for the teapot purists, that is. I haven't bothered to download a torrent in years. Almost invariably the torrent site was either wanting me to download an.EXE (which was often malware or virus-infected.. yes, I checked) or a torrent which itself was misleading, misidentified, or itself containing infected executables.
4 watts per hour * 24 hrs a day * 365 days * 20 years.. and then get your 20% of max production = 140,160 watts. I'm not impressed, really. I could probably do better with a hamster wheel.
I present to you the wonderful animated series "Cat Sh*t One". Admittedly the rabbits are lovable Special Operations trained killers (and the evil camels are their foe).. but they do a great job of handling weapons, binoculars, hand grenades and the like.
Couldn't help but wonder: if one of them puppies "accidentally" broke free of its moorings and started drifting away.. and I just happened to be there with a tugboat (or a bloody rowboat, for that matter!) and got a line on it...
No thudding sound, no interruption of my tinnitus. And yes, my speakers are turned on.

I always said that a brandy / cognac drunk was a mean drunk.
Looks like I've been right all along.
Ditto. Just waiting for NoScript.

Again a Rotary-based initiative.

Sorry, but I couldn't hear a thing despite turning my speakers up.
Each balloon will, one presumes, be anchored and communicated with by a long cable, right?
What's to keep all those military and news helicopters and aircraft from running into the cables? They can be quite hard to see, don't you know?
Big orange balls anchored every 50 feet vertically? Good luck with that.

The Brat From Hell kicking the back of your airline seat.
Your name wouldn't be Susan Mauldin, would it?

did the same thing in Nawth Ca'lina years ago, and we're STILL paying for it.

You say that like it's a bad thing :-(

Now no one will ever be lost again!
Or, on the other hand, you now can find where to go to really be alone!
Unless it doesn't work that way. With Facebook, who knows?

It just wasn't worth the hassle.
Who are you, and what did you do with our White House spokesperson?
Check your math.

Should we start a betting pool on which they hit first? Lava? Oil? A delicate fault line? American Indian remains?

Would it be mine?
Oh, my name it is Sam Hall ...
I wonder how old HE was?
