You make great points and I agree with you, but I had to point out that pixel shaders were actually implemented in DirectX 8.1. When I had an FX5700 I was able to get the pretty water and bump mapping in newer games like HL2, Guild Wars, and Far Cry.

However, there were more effects available in DX9 and the 8.1 effects looked better in 9 anyway. In addition, most modern DX games use features of 9 that make them look visibly worse on older cards (in other words, you're right.)

I'm pretty sure he was just saying exactly as it reads, that there are intelligent people who use MySpace. What do they use it for? To keep up with out-of-town friends, to make some new ones through the grapevine, and to keep their friends updated with blog entries just like you do (unless burndive.blogspot.com isn't yours).

MySpace is chock-full of dumbasses, and yes, it does give the tools necessary for people to make ridiculously unreadable, stupid, bloated pages; but there are perfectly normal, intelligent people who use it as a blog/picture site where they can keep track of friends and vice-versa.

Man, you're completely missing his argument. He wasn't attacking open source in general; in fact, he commended its ability to coordinate those students' projects (of course, once you saw anything negative about open source, I'm sure you stopped reading and started writing a zealous reply, so maybe you didn't see that).

He was commenting on open source's role in professional artistic applications, not in general (specifically open source APPLICATIONS, not OPERATING SYSTEMS, which you're so zealously defending). I don't think he meant "nobody" takes OSS seriously, maybe just most professionals in the field.

And honestly, your whole Disney argument falls through because it supports his original argument: they wanted PHOTOSHOP running on Linux, which clearly has an OSS alternative. Why? Professionals need PROFESSIONAL tools, and GIMP doesn't cut it for every application these companies use Photoshop for.

Both your replies are completely missing his point, and clinging to the literal meaning of one phrase he wrote. Not every negative statement about something is an attack on it as a whole.

... moderators are known to target accounts ...

Does it really surprise you that moderators would target an account with assholes like you around? Allow me to explain:

The moderation system impedes intelligent conversation (you're not adding much here) and thus, I post total garbage ...

You're not helping your cause much, are you? I only responded in the first place because you were bitching about the moderation system, yet you are a shining example of the system working exactly as intended (and in that case, is it really flawed?)

You haven't been modded down for having unpopular opinions. You've been modded down for being an egotistical asshole about expressing them.

That's exactly what the moderation system is there for: so everyone gets a chance to rate comments (and the meta moderation system is there to enforce fair ratings). Trolls and flamers like yourself get modded down, and people don't have to read their garbage unless they lower their threshold! Let's look at some examples from your history:

And here's the ego I was talking about! Sure, you have an above-average income, but because someone posts a story with a referral link, they're scum? My favorite part is that you just throw in that you're an intelligent person, as if it's relevant.
