I dont think so. Maybe once a month or more. I had started a windows install on the other partition and forgot about it for about 2 months. It just was too annoying to set up all the drivers. I had Linux going and it did what I needed.
I used to operate a business, and I had MS Office and Windows 2000. I quit using them both in favor of Linux and open office, and Linux is better now then it was then.
I could get by without windows (I still do play a game there if I think about it from time to time, although I do much more under Linux), and if I was running another business I would go all Linux again.
Id love to see ESRI get some real competition. I have the STate of open GIS and use some open source GIS apps, but they dont have the tools that ESRI does now.
Server, though is another thing, if you can make you maps, you dont need ESRI to show them, you can do it yourself for nothing. And be better at it too.

Open Office? Ms word still cant integrate Excel and Word properly. OO mixes calc and writer in such a way that makes sense and is useful. Master document building makes more sense in OO as well. And dont forget that OO has gone out of their way to make the file save format open, using xml and zip.

20 to 40 meters of accuracy? I work with various grades of GPS and even with low accuracy gps I can get within 10 feet no problem. I mapped wireless access points before and they really turn out to be VERY inaccurate overall.
Oh well maybe some fun could be had, like PHYSICAL address spoofing.
This speed thing is just rediculous. Nobody would turn off the autoloaders for either program unless they were low on ram, and if they were they could simply use a text editor.

I have Linux and windows on this computer. The windows install and configuration is BY FAR more work then Linux. I have been putting of finishing the Windows install for a month now because I dread it so much. Its just what you are used to.
Linux, put in live cd (in this case the simplest of them all mepis) and the system boots into the OS. Click the install me button. Check to use unused space for linux in my case (or use the graphical partitioner). Answer about 4 questions. Reboot, OS installed, Nvidia running 3d, network card enabled, eveything found. None of this winodws nonsense of finding and download ing drivers, updating and rebooting OVER AND OVER again, installing all the thirdf party software just to mnake windows "safe".

I havent used partition magic in years, its still around?
Any way qtparted is graphical, easy to use, and I do believe comes with Knoppix and Mepis and Xandros to name 3 live CD's. I have used it many times to partition windows computers (with or without linux on them).
Does partition magic cost $? Yet another good reason for free software: a repeatable simeple tool to build once and use over and over.
Ill be modded down, I dont care,. But I hope they dont. I would rather see windows go away. The products exist already: Linux, BSD, and MacOS. Make the windows go away and the problem almost dissapears.
If these products succeed, we will have to endure many more years of windows.
I dont know anything about IIs. The last Microsoft server software I tried was so crappy I just never went back to it. I use Linux and Apache of course.............

Couldnt disagree more. Intelectual property just needs to go away. We cant move forward as a race until we get over this concpet. Will people stop being creative? Doubtful, money or not. But in the current model creativity must yield monatary results, which is, by definition, ruining the creative aspect.
Maybe I havent paid enough attention, but is there something worth seeing in the screenshots? I mean if I was to look at say SUSE enterprise I know I would be interested in the config screens, the services gui, the users and admin guis, the folder and networking guis etc. This is all stuff that suse has done that is interesting to look at. It doesnt have to be graphical, suse just happens to be. Did I not visit the right screen shots or am I right about nothing to see here?
I didnt mean to say that you would be at every performance, you dont need to be. Of course you will have the cd or the mp3 or whatever. But just because you might not go to shows, doesnt mean others wont, and maybe you will go once in a while. Thats all it will take. The band only needs what like.001 percent of any major metro area to go to a show 2 x a week and they are fine.

This is what I have been saying for the longest time. The CD now is just an ad. Performance, merchandise, maybe the artwork to hold the music is whats for sale. Go out and perform and work just like the rest of us, no offense, but thats how it should be. Otherwise, if you love to play music, good enjoy it,money is irrelevant.
Give away the tunes, play 5 days a week, and of course, be something people want to hear and you are set.

As for credit cards and money, sure copy as much as you want, but it doesnt necessarily have value, and I would argue that money isnt copyrighted, its a different catagory all together.
And there are other places on earth where the society copies things as they see fit and doesnt have violence. For example, traditional song, dance, and farming techniques.
I think the places you are talking about have a much bigger problem then copyright. And remember, its America that puts most of its people in jail anyway. I would say watch your back in this country. Those picutres you took with what you thought was your own camera? If its patented and copyrighted, maybe you dont even own them, maybe if you make a copy the parent corp will need to punish you! This is the problem.

Actually, the effect has been the opposite on music, the price went down due to piracy.
As far as software goes, why dont those companies offer SERVICE such as real support and charge for that? The reason whysoftware costs so much isnt due to piracy (damn do we have to go here again???), its due to becomming a standard and setting a price point that businesses will pay. The rest of the users they could care less about because it just ensures that people will be famialiar with it at work, thus closing the loop.

Could you point out some of these better features? I have used K3B as a front end for cd and dvd burning and I would rather use it then Nero. Nero just gets worse, the interface is uglier and more confusing then ever before. So to find out I took a noob (family member) who had never used any CD burning software before. We did some basic tasks in Nero and some Basic tasks in K3B. Once comfortable, we did some shortcuts and some more complicated things like making amusic cd from mp3's that was live music so you needed to remove the pregap for example.
In the end the user preferred K3B over Nero. It was easier to use and "just worked right".

Tell me how I can have it delete files off the server when deleted locally. I dont see the option. It appears to be removed but it doesnt.
Thunderbird can do that and is easily configured.

I dont like the way Mozilla updates either, a full binary is a bit extreme.
BUT to say that a 5MB file is too big for a dial up user is rediculous. If they are used to getting MS updates this will seem like nothing.
