It's basically a big PDA at a time when the PDA market is on it's death bead: check

It's as much as PDA as your desktop is a PDA that sits in one spot and never moves. This thing runs a full blown operating system, not Pocket 2006 or Windows Mobile or whatever the kids are calling Windows CE these days. As it runs Windows XP, I see no reason why it should not be able to run any Linux distro that runs on a similiar X86 platform. I am looking forward to it. A PDA to me has always had limited functionality, where as this I see no reason that it could not fully replace a laptop. Just my $.02

His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.

If you do the math of building a unit, then the time (labor hours) to get it running right, then the "discussions" with your other half why your MythTV installation is so complicated, you will almost always win out buying a tivo (if all your going to do is use it to record tv, listen to music, etc..) I got one for 30 bucks from Tivo, and threw a 250 gig harddrive in it. Wife loves it, and using a USB2 nic I can do almost everything a media center PC can do (almost). As for everything else, Xbox Media Center is where its at. The two make a dynamite couple.
