Do people really plug in their credit cards into iTunes and then let there kids just do what they want with a device that has access to that resource? There is no way i would even leave a credit card attached to that kind of account, let alone let a child have unrestricted access that device. I have two iPod touches that my kids play with. At this point they are too young to grasp the concepts of accounts or passwords, but that day is coming. I only do iTunes cards so that there is no way that any financial damage can go beyond the amount i have already pre-paid (usually in the $15 to $25 range). A little common sense goes a long way in this world, but i guess that's asking too much.
Apples secret weapon building computers and devices that you like more a month, six months, or even a year after the initial purchase/obtainment date. They are used to being disappointed so when they aren't, it makes a strong impression. People talk about those kinds of things in there lives.
"Copyright infringement silently drains America's economy and undermines the talent, creativity and initiative that are a great source of strength to our nation," said Leahy.
I thought that was what the government did.
I have Vista running on a three year old Toshiba laptop. I just tried this and it did not happen. I started a network transfer of a 700mb file and opened an mp3 in winamp. There was no slowdown of the transfer. The transfer actually got faster as it went while the mp3 was playing. This is probably a certain soundcard/chipset or driver issue. I installed a beta performance patch that seemed to fix a few issues and may have fixed this before i encountered it.
My advice to anyone who this happens to or anybody that you know that this happens to is to immediately defer this to a lawyer. 999 times out of 1000 you will never hear about it again because their claims are fraudulent. Most lawyers should only charge a few bucks (or at least only a fraction of what is being asked as payment) to take a phone call or write a letter to squash this kind of claim like a bug. Lawyers love to qwn these kinds of idiots. I know this because my dad is a lawyer, and he hates these kinds of fraudsters.
Microsoft may not fall completely for a long time. They have spent decades growing a user base of untold numbers. Microsoft has become a 'household name' worldwide, and because of this they have lasting power. Even if their products might not be the best. Lasting power like this can only withstand so much dilution in the free market. If the other guy is doing well or better, they will gain market and mindshare. This is slowly happening with Apple and the Linux. For a long time Windows ruled the roost. It has been the dominant OS my whole adult life. In the past few years alternatives have emerged with similar or better functionality than Windows. These are the new kids in town. What weather's the storm, will one day instead of being novice, will become the old hand.
winter is coming?
i believe we are past it.
Apple cuts out another middle man. I'm shocked.

Seen it. Took a picture. Just sent it to them. I was at a camp out. Everybody totally freaked out and hid in their tents and vehicles.
It's like the Fire Dept. saying that the mechanics working on their trucks are not important.
years or decades later.
Nothing apparently.
When i tell people that my computer never gets a virus because it has Linux on it, it seems to peek peoples curiosity.

I believe the DeGroots were a group of research scientists who founded the Dharma initiative.
