ok, I guess "flavors" are for specific tasks but I really don't see it that way.
When I install a distro I tend to do what *I* want w/it (something that is really not possible w/Windows). I ran Slackware back in the day, then RedHat for a while (I had a UDB and I liked having the same distro on all systems), then I went to Debian b/c I wanted apt-get and the knowledge that it will be steadily taken care of.
So, where I understand that the "corporate types" and the new-users and the UI lovers have their distros, I really don't see those as "specific tasks".
Until I see distros like "LinuxNT" and "Linux98 Home Edition" I am really going to stick w/my guns and say flavors of Linux are just that, different ideas on what Linux should be. Not just say they are for different tasks.
like the assholes who call in to CSRs don't curse at them? Haha. Sure, we are likely to hang up on you after the "three-strikes rule" but that's not the point, nor does it stop them from calling me a "fucking dickhead", "dumbass bitch", or my favorite, "if you were so smart, you would be working at IBM like me doing network engineering instead of taking calls from people like me."
Wny people call tech support to scream and yell I will never know. Do they not know that we put them on speakerphone and laugh at them on mute?
the porch is now clean. It can again be inhabited by living organisms other than the mosquitoes that were being bred in the stale water surrounding one of the empty kegs.
I swear on my mother that the porch no longer stinks like rotting otter.
if it was treated like a utility it would be taken advantage of monetarily like those are.
I would take calls from customers that were complaining that their Internet was down. These were normally people who wouldn't pay their bill for 60 days and wonder why it was off. They even had the nerve to complain that it was like Gas or Water and that we MUST give notice in the mail of their delinquency (it's not like gas or water). These people actually believed it was a NECESSARY item in their lives (giving me the excuse that they couldn't pay their bills b/c they used the Internet for paying it -- I asked them if they ever used checks..)
We do NOT need this to become part of the cities infastructure. I am much happier w/it being controlled by a third party. I am already annoyed w/the electric bill being estimated half the time, and I am REALLY annoyed that natural gas prices have gone up.
Could you imagine getting billed for "estimated bandwith use" or being told that the price of Internet was going up b/c too many people were hogging bandwith? Hell NO.
well, I would prefer putting a fingerprint scan on my beer fridge instead. When you are rich enough to buy wine you should share your collection. When you can only afford cheap beer you need to protect it;)
I could never understand the LONG lists of available files which are not usable.
In addition, anyone using ATTBI should be forewarned that you should remove ANY and ALL movies from your shared folder on any P2P network. The MPAA is reporting violations to ATTBI's legal demands center and ATTBI *is* disabling users who violate rules.
I suggest the removal of all shared movies if you are on ANY ISP, but especially large cable modem networks.
Considering that it costs me $50 per visit, I don't see how it is helping me. I don't see the need for 6 month checkups when the prescription won't change for years, possibly decades.
Fuck the HMOs and the Dr.'s. I don't see why I should have to pay a dime for either my visit or my prescription. 60 pills should not cost $38. It just shouldn't.
they want you to have a prescription so that you have to constantly be checked by a Dr. in order to get your meds/items. That way you are forced to visit and pay up (at least in the US where we don't have nationalized healthcare).
I have to take prescription meds for high blood pressure, same thing. Every 6 months, check to see if the meds are working the way they should, and refill for 6 more months.
if people are going to have a computer come w/a video card that has 64mb of VRAM or they have only part time need for VRAM then they can use this as a fast alternative to physical space for swap.
I am not a SW fan. In fact, I hate all the movies w/a passion.
This is just pimp though. Not likely that you would get SWARMED by anyone you would want to get swarmed by (I can't see you picking up hotties in your Ford Escort/Star Wars cruiser) but I could see that people would be interested.
What fascinates me is the price. 880 miles and a real car and the guy is selling it for less than $5000 + 50% of the transport costs? Makes you wonder a bit.
people who are involved w/those that are known to be infected w/HIV. These people (for whatever reason) continue to have intercourse w/their mates and do not contract the disease.

oh fucking bullshit. There has been more and more media bullshit since 9/11 about this. I don't know who the fuck they are interviewing but at quick survey of people that are nearby here (two neighbors, my girlfriend, my roommate, and two more friends) which is 7 people including me shows that 0 of 7 want to give up ANY freedom b/c of the tradgedys.
Other than the links I send to my roommate and my gf (usually not privacy related) no one surveyed was a/. reader nor are they gung-ho anti-big-brother individuals.
So, I want to meet the morons these people talked to in order to get the bullshit idea that people are more willing to give up their rights.
I guarantee if I called my parents (both over 50) and asked them they would tell me HELL NO. If I called my grandmother (already pissed off that she had to be patted down in a wheelchair) she would say HELL NO.
most people didn't know, don't know, and don't care to know what Java is. Whether or not MS killed it isn't really the point. The point is that MOST people only know what MS puts out. They don't care about anything unless it works w/Windows.
Most things work just fine w/Windows and that's how MS makes it.
I see most flash programming as a big cartoon. If people can make political statements in cartoons, how does making the "cartoon" interactive remove its rights for free speech?
I think that law makers just don't like the fact that we can go around killing them w/lightning and nail guns.

it's a slow day, they had to make some interesting out of something completely boring.
using software that the MAJORITY of people use and being able to interchang EASILY with those people.

Easy use of your computer.
I am no MS lover, but your comment was definitly over-rated.

eventually this could be implemented into slashcode to eliminate the need for poor editing.
ok great, so you have fiber to your house. That doesn't mean you are going to have MONSTER bandwith to your house as well. At least not yet.
So you're still waiting.
it's called my first finger.
I would only use it if I was actually using Mac hardware. I really don't see any reason that I need to switch other than that.

August 7th boys.
I can't remember what I had for dinner last night but I could remember seeing this on the main page.
really? I just tried Playboy and Maxim and they worked just fine. If the government doesn't like them why don't they block them?
