  1. More important then you think. on Star/OpenOffice XML Format To Become ISO Standard? · · Score: 3, Insightful

It's not all pointy haired bosses out there. In the pharma industry, you see software standards like CFR PART 11 being inforced top down. There are rules about documentation retention. All you need is a rule describing in which format they have to be retained... and if there is an ISO format available, then regulation-heavy industries like pharma, nuclear, etc. might jump on board faster then you think. Off course if MS makes a nice export filter....

You are soooo full of crap. If Disney published their music in a format compatible with the age group they are aiming at (ROM chip in gameboy-package?), I would buy that. Truth is there is no format available today which is "compatible" with a three year old. By the way, letting a three year old find out how to use a CD player is also education, and allowing it to make a mistake (destroy the CD) is an even more important part of education.

It does mean it has become completely impossible to see more then 2-3 stars at night. Light-pollution has become an issue and the astronomers are organising a "dark" night once a year, asking municipalities and private people to turn off the flood-lights. There are now standards on how much light a lamppost is allowed to shine upwards.
