Water is okay for some steels. Oil is okay for some steels. Some oil needs to be heated to a certain temperature for some steels. Some steels air harden. If you water quench 5160 (a popular blade steel) your blade will most likely crack.
Truck spring shops might sell you good known steel. Often 5160 or 1095. 1095 is harder to heat treat correctly with cheap tools. 5160 is pretty forgiving.
I've been looking for work for a couple of weeks now.
When prompted for questions toward the end of the interview the only thing I can ever think to ask is how receptive management is to input from below*. For all intents and purposes I've been laughed at every time, without exception. You'd be surprised at some of the reputedly innovative and creative companies that have responded this way.
I'm not sure any company really wants to hire thinking people. There's too much risk in it, they might not be as malleable as the run-of-the-mill sheep.
*: e.g., ideas for products, features, marketing strategies, etc.
I've been doing it "at a computer" all day. I wish someone would patent a "process of bludgeoning a human, or human-like, being to a non-living state with a lead pipe", because then my cube-farm mates would have fewer options of relatiation...
Have you ever had that dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid, with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?
There are some very rare blogs about fairly everyday events that are very entertaining to read. Having a good writer behind the blog can turn a day with the kids into a page and a half of coffee spewing goodness.
For example:
Magazine Man which is, supposedly, written by the editor of a major magazine.
The Misadventures of the Little Hedonist which the author admits is, at least partially, fictional. Sometimes his spelling is iffy but the stories are usually pretty entertaining.
Sure, these aren't geek blogs but who wants to read about the time Larry goes to Layer Court? Sure, it's interesting but who wants to read glossy coverage of technical issues in a daily issue type format? That is pretty unsatisfying to me.
Actually, for me windows 3.1 was pretty stable and usable. Win95 was unstable and I pretty much had to fix it as much as use it. However, WinXP actually works well most of the time, doesn't easily break, and I can do pretty much all of the same things on it as I can on any other modern OS.
The about box in the windows client says that it includes audio components from Global IP Sound. I don't know anything about the Jabber protocol's capabilities but maybe the whole voice chat thing is the selling point?
And I've got, "You fill a much-needed gap" at the bottom of mine. I wonder if that means the govt. is going to start using citizens for construction materials.
I would assume that they are two people who were/are married. Now that I think about it, I believe Jessica was associated with researching regarding the origins of buffalo wings.
Not being a Nazi but that has to be the greatest spelling of audacity that I've ever seen! I think it probably represents the meaning even better than the 'correct' spelling. Anyone who works for 'Joey' and thinks their doing good work is definitely an odd ass.

Crap. First time I post to slashdot in years and I do it A/C.

A lot of linguistics and foreign language majors like Macs because very simple key combinations give you, at least, basic accenting abilities.
"Condoleezza" - two Es, two Zs, just remember "very EZ".
Ahhh, so that's what happened to her teeth...

I'm sorry to inform you that Microsoft will be buying up all of the Borg implants. Resistance is futile. We have beeeeeeeeeellionzzz.
This new device will be called the MS DefenestrationStation.
So, do you have an actual complaint about /. linking to Joel's stuff or are you just jealous?

Bah someone beat me to it.
I love Eggcorns.
Hey...I can see Uranus from here!

The article is good. I also enjoyed this actual footage of the '68 demo at SRI.
