Let me ask. What about the towns that do not have extremely large populations? Do we not deserve the news? It would be nice to know what the local city council is planning, or what events are going on. I can guarantee you without our local newspaper, there would be no local distribution of news. The Drudge Report isn't going to cover the city of Idaho Falls, ID deciding to close the aquatic center (not that this is happening...yet), but it would certainly have an impact on the residents. Without the local newspapers, we'd be reliant on hearsay and ignorance (which we have plenty of anyway). Sure, Idaho Falls might survive on TV and Radio, but Rigby, ID would not. These (the rural news)papers are the hardest hit by the decline in revenues since their revenue streams are too small to begin with. I have often thought it would be to the benefit of Eastern Idaho to aggregate the papers into one large paper, but what happens instead is news blackouts. Large regions of the state get no coverage at all. Even a biased media is better than no media. Drudge is not the answer, not just because they are a biased news aggregator, but because either no one will be there for the smaller communities or it will be too difficult for the average citizen to find the appropriate news source for their tiny community. This may be the 21st century, but the 15th century technology is still a very relevant way of communicating information.
I used all my mod points, but you got it. Many problems are because the "traffic engineers" don't really design things correctly. Some of this is because they are not given the necessary budget for the correct type of traffic control devices, but some of it is just plain because some incompetent person was put into the position they are completely unqualified for. Some cities don't think they need anyone with training to figure out how to do the job. Other times, (like in my area), the intersection is controlled by two different towns, and neither one wants to pay for the necessary upgrades. Or a city council knows an intersection or corridor needs improvement, but decides "it has been a problem for the last 20 years why fix it now?". Another favorite is a city council knows a corridor/intersection is a problem, but due to growth they do not want to pay for a temporary solution, and certainly don't want to pay now for the final solution.
I'm sure they do. Money is green; trees are green. Money is printed on paper, paper is a byproduct of wood, wood comes from trees; ergo money grows on trees. Plus the feds ship forests of this stuff to them, and they didn't have to work for it.
Feeling particularly trollish? It doesn't matter what party does the fraud (I say this as someone who voted Democrat in the last election); these people should be tried and hung for treason. This cuts into the very fabric of what our country is suppose to be.
It's like maintenance coding with comments.
If you can normally do maintenance in code without comments and 3-character variable names, then you tend to learn the language in depth, and learn to find the clues hidden beneath.
But if you only have done maintenance on well documented code with good comments, variable names, and functions, then you are likely to get lost if any of those are missing or incorrect.
So, we should all learn to maintain assembly before we move on to nicer languages like C++ and JavaScript.
Well, if the NZ system is anything like the US system -- money. I'm sure that it seems to completely miss the point of your question, but it doesn't. Money buys "justice", the rest of us simply bask in the "benevolence" of the gracious people like Mr. Smith.
Don't go to any place previously listed. San Diego is very tame compared to many places. And yes, even the police will pass you as if you were standing still at 95 in San Diego.
First, some of us do not have TV, so the internet is our method of receiving a broadcast. Second, there is a great deal of hype/enthusiasm/hope surrounding this event, and to see it live adds extra meaning to the event. When was the last time you recall a President greeted with so much good will? I can say it has never happened in my lifetime.
I like IE because I'm a curmudgeon and like things the way they were. IE doesn't impose great changes on me each version. In fact, if Mosaic didn't crash so often, I'd use it.
The major problem I had with Classmates was that even after getting their "Gold membership", I was still inundated with extreme amounts of ads. You'd think that paying members should get less spam and ads, but not so with Classmates. Maybe it has changed since '03; I've never been back.
BTW, it was worth it in a way. I found a good friend from HS, and my current gf.
The summary says the smoking was done inside an employers building. If you consider an employer trying to make a building safer for the other occupants oppressive, then you may have difficulties finding an employer who isn't such a tyrrant.
If you read many of the comments, you would have found that there are many who would love to see Obama run against this problem too. The tone of the comments might contain slight differences. However, overall, people generally dislike the DMCA, and we find enjoyment in the irony of McCain having to suffer the consequences of his vote in favor of this law he now cries against.
Dude! That'd be like so trippin if a computer could like totally get old skool Valley talk, ya know? But not to harsh on anybody's parade, but like Dude! Does anyone speak that way anymore?
I've never actually read his statement before. If you assume it is a dumb down analogy, it isn't bad. Especially, if one remembers that many of the folks in congress are the same age as the folks in the senior home.
There are a large number of jobs with stupid requirements and BS HR preventing real applicants from getting through, but even after filtering those out, there are still jobs. You might 1) want to have your resume checked. Maybe it's worse than you think. Also, make mention that you are adept at learning new languages in it. 2) Make sure when you are interviewing, that you don't come off as disgruntled. 3) Be willing to move for a job. I don't know if you feel that you must live somewhere, but if you do, that can be very limiting. There's at most a dozen employers in my town, and they all know each other. 4) Consider a job in C++, and look to move to another language from within the company. My employer requires C/C++, but we venture off into C#, VB, Fortran, PHP, etc. Most long-term employers will need their employees to learn other languages as they come along.
As for RAC, the folks who win the bids come from countries where "slave" wages go pretty far. For someone from the US, look for ads that are looking for a US bias (though rare, they exist).
Maybe we could put the code in a Wiki, but then the only problem would be the ancient voters would want it in C or COBOL, the middle aged folks would want something like Java, and the kids would want Django or whatever the newest hippest language is these days. Of course, the Diebold guys probably want it written in CABAL.
More seriously a "Democratic" government should be transparent, and it does not make sense to use an opaque voting system.
If a potential employer is so anti-X as to consider not hiring a pro-X activist, and the potential employee so pro-X that he/she is an activist, it probably is better to not be hired. First, tension could be created in the office that may be distracting to everyone in the office. Second, the tension between the boss and potential employee would likely lead to the employee's termination. Now, if the potential employee was pro-X 5 years ago, that's a different matter.
If they use that method, then they would also have to install a meter like the other utilities that can be independently inspected, and shows the amount used. Without inspection, they could either lie (which may happen anyway), or set it up so that the "meter" is continuously chattering causing usage.
Think of this as a small step towards an end goal. S1m0ne is one example. Or I'd prefer to think maybe they could make the next Wonder Woman movie with Lynda Carter of the 70's rather than some other actress or Lynda Carter of the now. She could do the voice acting, and then they just attach it to her digital double. Or, maybe even take it a step further and create a whole new John Wayne picture.

And vigilante justice...the courts aren't going to do the right thing.

It is in almost everything, then we wonder why everyone is taking Metformin to control their diabetes.

So then OJ should be able to ask for a retrial and plead mental insanity. Clearly he is brain damaged.

Now, get off my lawn.
All governments devolve into an oligarchy.

To be modded funny on Slashdot? Yes.

Then perhaps, someone should tell them, "I do not think that word means what you think it does."
