I grew up in one city or another for most of my life so you can imagine what a shock it was to me when I was 14 and visiting some distant relatives in rural Barbados (redunancy) when night fell and the sky lit up with stars from horizon to horizon. Really freaked me out. Its like that torture machine from hitchikers guide where they show you how small you are in the galaxy.
not at all. Too different issues all together. Like you said The second is a privacy thing the first is kinda a free speech thing. Well not really since as I understand it he was selling the stuff not making it.
Isn't everything on Slashdot really "Causes of the Editors?"
I read an interveiw once on TechTV.com I think with the slashdot guys where they basically said there criteria for posting stories is stuff they think is cool. So why are you bitching about it. If you don't like what they post start your own site or read something else. You have an enless list of choices.
If we're going to rally behind someone whose rights are trampled on, lets pick a better candidate.
No thats incorrect. Being Black I have no love for the KKK but I was still pissed when our then hated and now seemingly beloved ex-Mayor Rudolf Guilliani did some highly suspect manuveuring to deny them a permit to march down Wall Street in NY.
You see the piont is not how worthy the person/s are to be defended are. The point is that if the G-men can step on them, they can easily step on you.
I have no doubt he's jerk. But does that mean he doesn't deserve to be protected by the law?
www.scion.com
Flat base price for each model and then you add options. I've never bought a car, so maybe I'm missing something.
gotta say that xB has a nice ugly/sexy thing going for it. I'd drive one.
duh? I thought everyone knew by now that his charitable contributions are for tax reasons. Do you know how much money Billy Boy says by spewing a couple million here and there?
And I am sure that Windows 2025 will periodically lock me out of my house and try to kill me with my robotic lawn mower.
god don't be so cynical. Win 2025 will do none of those things. It might however replay objects when something is changed giving you that strange feeling of Deja Vu, and there's always the posibilty that'll it'l send men in SNAZZY black suits after you if you start asking questions like "What is real?". But these aren't things you should worry about. Nothing to see here. Move along...
People don't delete fakes. It rather amazing. I heard of a guy who hard encrypts stuff he nts to archives and the names the file after a new movie or something. People download this 600+ MB files realize its not the movie, some are probably savy enough to realize its not even a damn mpeg/avi but they don't delete them. They just let thenbogus file sit on the hardrive with out evening a namechange and let it proogate. He'd come back months later and still find the file on at least three users.
Personally I blame this phenomenon on cheap HD space. I'm running a Win XP laptop with 20 gigs. I'm constantly archiving stuff to cd and cleaning the junk of my HD because I can go from 10 G free to 0 without even realizing it. Especially since software developers have seemed to have adopted the "Bigger is Better" mantra (I mean why does an Image Veiwer need to be 25 MB ?)
Makes me long for the days when 100 MB was considered more than any sane person needed and any normal person could afford. At least people would be conservative with their space.
You call that dead? For a government office maybe, but give me $169 M, I'd higher only out of work IT geeks, a couple thousand used Dell in an abandoned wharehouse and setup a Linux/BSD BeoWOLF that could tell me what you had for breakfast...before you have it.
is because it's full of rap music, product placement advertisements, gratuitous sex scenes (well those are okay), crappy dialogue, additional characters, and a new ending. just a hunch...
yeah, in the script he is referred to as Jack. But remember this movie also has Brad "My face cream costs more than your yearly salary" Pit as Tyler Durden, which has to be the most Ironic and Hypocritical casting choice... Ever.
But hey it Hollywood you actually expect them to get stuff right?
, and I cannot imagine having NO control over something in my own home.
you and me both Brother, which why I don't own a car. I don't know jack about them, can barely drive, and I don't want to own anything that I couldn't fix myself if something, even if very minor, went wrong.
I'll never understand how people can own something, and be blissfully ignorant of what goes on under the shiny plastic cover. That would disturb me to the very core.
Just after Columbine happaned I remember spending a lot of time during class working out the easiest way to take out the most people by myself with a limited number of weapons.
I sat around and thought about the merits of snipering from a tower vs. armed assualt complete with smoke and infared goggles. I remember thinking about it in detail planning every little thing I could think of, researching ammo types, max lethal range for certain easily available rifles etc.
Now granted my knowledge of firearms came alot from Video Games, but not any more than from Tom Clancy books and the History Channel. In fact since this was pre-CS I'd say most of my knowledge came from the History channel, especially some wonderful documentaries they aired on assasinations, that thought me the merits of the AK-47/74.
Now the difference between me and these guys is a simple one. I probably did as much planning as they did if not more. In fact I dare say I fantasized about it. But I stopped just short of collecting weapons and making the large leap between "I'll think about killing half my school" and "I'm going to kill half my school".
Why is this? The answer to that question is the fundamental issue here. I'm am not violent by nature. I tend to avoid fights even though I'm 6' 2" 230lbs. The fights I've been in, I've tended to reign in my punches at the last minute because I don't like hurting people.
I shudder to think what I'd be like if I had a violent personality. I can bet I'd be a lot more dangerous than these guys, more effecient anyway.
And thats what it comes down to basically. Not video-games or media in general. Having the knowledge to do something isn't the same as doing it. Despite what the media keeps telling everyone. There is something else that makes you violent or not. I wish people would stop looking for easy answers.
Hell, I'll be using a CRT until I can buy a used 21" LCD with at least 1280 x * off ebay for less than $200.
As for laptops I'm still regretting the last computer that I bought. I could have gotten a desktop for half the price and a Zaurus with the rest of my saved cash and I'd be set. Instead I'm stuck with a box of integrated hardware thats alreadfy depreciated to half its value on Ebay in the 6 months that I bought it. Even if I sold it right now I'd still be paying for it at least until november.
Until I can buy a machine that fits in my hand, boots Linux and still plays the latest games 3 years after I bought it with minimal upgrades I'll stick to a desktop.
Atleast then I can rip my Motherboard,CPU and Video card out every 6 months and upgrade to keep my framerate playable.
Well the only Jpanese Magazines I read are Model Kit mags (Hobby Japan etc) and those are pretty thick, bordering on 100+ pages at times. If the magazine has 20 interesting pages then I suspect most of there readers skim it in the shop anyway.
If they guys need something to do, how about getting that incredibly silly censorship law Japan has changed. I'm tired of seeing big stinking pixels in my Japanese porn.
At Safeway (at least in CA) they allow you to use a phone number if you 'don't have your card with you.'
I just rotate a collection of phone numbers I have memorized, some are from people I know, who don't mind me using it. Some are from other customers I overhead in line.
The point is that I know what the system does and I can get around it very easily. I can even, god forbid, refuse to use a card or number altogether and bypass it.
Whats my opt option if the gov blankets my city or town in networked survellience cameras? Short of moving to Death Valley not bloody much.
It seems like a no win situation, its either I say nothing and they think I'm not listening, or I saw something I they think I'm being a no it all.
They book sounds a little to Dr. Phil for my tatses but I'll skim it in a BN and maybe pick it up if it can answer some of these questions.
Thats why I always carry a maglight.
DOWN WITH DARKNESS.

The question we should be really asking is, how can we get SCO from this...come one there must be some way.
Think about it...
and you have the gaul to sit here and complain about technological anachronisms in the movie Brazil. Dude...
duh? I thought everyone knew by now that his charitable contributions are for tax reasons. Do you know how much money Billy Boy says by spewing a couple million here and there?

OB Simpson's quote of course. No news story would be complete without one. Kent Brockman. Homer in Space episode.

What?!! Thats it, the final straw...
now I'm defintely watching it.
But hey it Hollywood you actually expect them to get stuff right?

But I guess that why people think I'm obb/com...
its ludicrous that a company would sell something like this
Even more ludicrous is that a bunch of clueless people will, no doubt, actually go out and buy some.
no...I've fired a couple. Handguns and rifles mostly just so I know how. But there aren't many situations where I can see myself actually owning one.

Then we're all 0wn3d.
Bad idea. Isn't that what started this whole human race thing in the first place?
