you mean, parents have responsibilities? Surely not! It's up to the congress to legislate our childs upbringing. It's only through laws that we can teach our children what they need to learn.
And I wish that the windows-zealots would stop saying that Linux is not ready for the desktop, because that is a faulty reasoning... Because it isn't ready for WHOSE desktop? Yours! And your wishes might not be the same as your neighbour's. The Average User does not exist...
The list of games is indeed not complete, but that was never my intention. There are a lot of great games for Linux. Though not many 'big-label' games, because the larger game-houses don't support that OS.
Linux is ready for the desktop... it is the wrong question to ask... The real question is, "Is Linux ready for you?"
And Linux still has quite a lot to offer gamers, it just depends on what your demands are.
From the top of my head, a few native Linux games: FPS: - Quake (1 through 4) - UT (99, 2k3, 2k4) - W:ET - Sauerkraut / Cube 2 - Warsow - Legends
Strategy: - Freeciv - Savage (1 and the soon to be released 2) - Darwinia
Well the list goes on, and it quite extensive (not all are Tetris-clones). And you can run games in Wine or in Cedega.
But the question you should ask yourself is, 'Is Linux ready for me?' If the answer to that question is "no", then indeed Linux is not ready for YOUR desktop.
not only are those formats proprietary, but also very expensive. My mom has a Cybershot, which takes a Sony memory stick... and those sticks are really expensive. Especially if you look at the competition, like the SD card or the CF card. (both about half the price of a Sony stick and both faster and generally a better choice). And there are so many different non-compatible flavours for that one stick: memorystick, memorystick pro, memorystick duo, memorystick pro duo. etc...
The buzz around the XBox system itself will have fizzled out, as the "new" novelty of the system will be gone.
The quality games for the Xbox360 are coming out around that time. Given that games developers have had over a year now to develop and learn the possibilities of the new console.
Nintendo has long been 3rd in the console rankings, and that probably won't change here.
Everyone I know is planning on buying a Wii as their second console (next to either a 360 or a PS3), and more people on the net think the same thing. So combining that fact, and the Nintendo fanboys, and the new market Nintendo is intending to infiltrate... I'd gather you'll see Nintendo back on track. Nintendo ended in the third place, because they were arrogant, and thought they could squash down Sony, with a console with a better chipset (64 bits against PS1's 32 bits)... Sounds familiar?
More importantly though, the name "Playstation" carries more weight than arguably any other system out there. [snip] reputation alone should be able to get it through these rough patches.
That's the same argument we heard about Nintendo when the Playstation got released. And around that time (a year later I believe) they released the Nintendo 64, and we all know how that ended.
There is another side that is highly overlooked. There are many ISPs, and most likely many of them would want to receive such a kick-back from the site-owners... But how many times do you have to pay these extortionists? And how much?
Let's say that you have 10 ISPs and each ask 10 bucks per month for letting you on the fast network. You already pay $100 per month on top of your normal bandwidth bill. How long do you think you can sustain that? Now there are more than 10 ISPs in the world that would like a piece of that cake... and of course I do not know how much they are asking. But the well is going to dry out, eventually (even for Google, if they would ever pay it). It could mean the end of the internet as we know it.
The way I see it, these ISPs that are backing this law are shooting themselves in the foot, but that is apparently normal business practice nowadays, as we see this behaviour more and more.
There is nothing stopping anyone from developing a game with equally small teams and budgets on the 360 and PS3. There is no requirement to take maximum advantage of a console.
But why would you pay >$300 for a console if the games don't take full advantage of the machine?
How many submissions do you think the Slashdot editors get on average? And how much time do they have to fact check on each of those submissions?
Would you cry as much if the New York Times publishes an article on a current issue without proper fact-checking? And how about CNN? Or Fox news? Or the BBC? (the latter is quite current, what with the fiasco with the wrong expert, most people laughed about it, rather than complain/b*tch or whine about it)
These things happen, especially when you try to be a current as possible. All news-outlets make these mistakes. Just let it slide.
Yes, from the Merrian-Webster Silicon Valley Edition.
btw, TFA speaks about downloads, but isn't it actually access to 'free' streams of those songs? Because how else are they going to pump out those ads to the users?
Which IMO is still a stupid idea though. I can't play streams on my MP3-player.
I hope this gets discussed at FLOSS Weekly or This week in Tech.

You still use Ethernet?
I interpret the WiFi waves rolling past me.

because of Nude mods... :) though I shudder to think of a Super Mario nude patch...
25000 yen is not equal to 225 euros.
:)
25000 yen is 175 euros.
Nintendo is not Sony
Please could someone correct this in the article?

You mean that BSD is evil?
well the controller does vibrate.. euhm I mean rumble.
You could always switch to a BSD version (or pure *nix)? If you want to stay that nerdy guy that doesn't want to follow the masses.

let's not forget that http://www.nintendo.com/wii still leads to an error page...
and the same goes for http://wii.nintendo.com/
Which I still think is weird.
No sir, that would be Nintendo Wang. :)
Has to be a monosyllable
I'd pay to see the second option, even though I hate clowns.
Would be very much fun, and it would liven up the courts a little. And it would show the world what kind of people those 'fat cats' are.
How many of the current artists write their own songs?
